My husband and I just got finished with a cooking class at Blue Elephant. It was amazing and worth every penny. From the moment you walk in the door, the experience is special and memorable. We were greeted with a refreshing glass of lemongrass water. Then we were taken by train to an outdoor market. One of the instructors took us to several stalls where she explained all the different fruits and vegetables common in Thai cuisine. She was incredibly knowledgable and spoke in a way that made it easy to understand. We sampled a few things along the way. It was very informative. Once we got back to the school we sat in a private room. The class size was perfect (10 people). We were given full demonstrations of each meal we would be cooking and then went to our own separate cooking stations to prepare our meal. The instructors were very friendly and passionate about Thai cooking. Several sous chefs were on hand to help us as we cooked. After we were done cooking, we all sat around a long table and shared our meal together.
We each cooked four dishes. It was more food than anyone could eat. It was all delicious! We were also given an apron, a folder with recipes and food chart, bottled water, tote bag and a prepackaged BE spice packet. Our train fare and food samplings at the market were all taken care of by the staff. Everyone spoke very good English. We arrived around 8:40 a.m. and didn't leave until almost 3 p.m. When we left, the ladies were given a beautiful orchid.
This was a very enjoyable and professional experience. I learned so much about Thai cooking, Thai cuisine and ate things I had never heard of before. It was wonderful.
