This hostel was OK. The service was OK. You get what you pay for. I had no beefs here. Would probably recommend staying closer to khao san though.

This is a place aimed at the Asian market, and as such is very cheap for Bangkok but western visitors may find it hard to cope with the lack of plug sockets, brusque service, Asian squat toilet and bucket shower. The bed and sheets however are clean, as is the bathroom, so it's perfect if you need to be at the station early-it's literally right outside.
I stayed this place because it is in good location and this looks not unsafe unlike many other cheap chinese hotels.room was only very simple and thai style one which i mean it may be not taste of back packer from western countries who used to stay westernized guest house in south east asia .
but I did not feel anything umcomfortable to stay here .only room was simple and it look like thai style ,but well cleaned for the price and for the history of the hotel
it is in good location where u can access to main train station only 1minute walking and other transportatons are also very convinient.and u can find many cheap and good thai food just walking around the hotel.of course u can walk to yaowaraad to find high quality chinese food.
and the hotel looks poor compared with other newly hotel which has star or other new guest house for westerners .but it is this hotel which was the best hotel in bangkok in the past where even king gathers .
this place keep the taste of old times in bangkok .and u can feel it only 250 thai baht one night
Stayed at the Sri Hualampong a few years ago. I've travelled extensively through SE Asia since 2001 and try not to complain about accommodation - it's all part of the experience and enjoyment - but this place was an absolute dive. Rooms dirty - particularly the bathroom floor, on which one stands to shower, beds so hard they could be made of brick, poor lighting, peep holes, and shutters which failed completely to block out any sound.
Okay so it's cheap, but there are other hotels in the area, in which a room costs roughly the same price, which are far better value for money.
I stayed at Sri Hualamphong Hotel for a couple of nights two years ago, and I definitely would recommend it to any independent, non-fussy traveler on a budget. I paid about 250 baht ($5 at the time) for my own room (with bathroom); it wasn't luxurious or well-lit, but it was clean, and that was what mattered to me. It's true, there's no hot water or concierge, but you have to be willing to spend quite a bit more if that's what you're looking for. The location is also fabulous, right next to the train station and around the corner from a subway station, to take you anywhere in Bangkok, and not too far away from the water taxi either. Also, as a woman traveling alone I felt safe at this hotel, which is a major point in its favor.
