“miserable”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 June 2008

I have a miserable experience in the resort, the first night at 1:50am i was trying to look for a hot shower to relief from this hellishly hot weather yet i realized that the heater is out of order i tried to ask for the staff ( who doesn't really english! ) for help,
and after explaining for a long time he told me that the hot water is out of order and couldn't be fixed until tomorrow morning!!!
and this was really unacceptable.
I tried to look for help to your staff again, and after another long explanation, he said he would ask his friend to come and fix it now. but EVENTUALLY he went to fix the heater himself and after 5 min there's hot water coming out!!!!!
but it was after almost an hour i finally got a shower.

service doesn't really exist in this place, cos the two staffs i met do not really speak english, and i didn't know how can i reach the owner or someone can really give me help.

another thing is that it's until checking in i saw a notice on the reception saying that : becos the credit card machine is out of order, so we can only accept cash. ( but obviously the machine has been out of order for ages ) but it's stated in the website that they can accept credit cards.

eventually i wrote an email to make a complaint of the service to the owner, and her reply was just two sentence: i am sorry for the inconvenience and you can leave at anytime you want.

overall it's a miserable experience and no service at all.
I won't recommend to anyone.

“Delightful, with some misgivings”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 May 2008

This was our first stay at ibrick hotel in the City. Bangkok is a familiar city to us, and we felt generally the stay was delightful with some slight misigivings. We stayed for three nights in the ground floor emerald room.

What was great:
-huge bedroom and bathroom
-wooden bathtub with rain shower was delightful
-decent enough breakfast menu which also serves as a sharp morning wakeup call (you have to tell them the previous day what time your breakfast)
-extremely well connected -sarasok BTS is right outside-using the train system avoids the highly congested city roads AND its two stops away from the nearest Chao Praya pier which will take you down the river system. The BTS and the riverboats system pretty much take you everywhere covering the east and west parts of the city respectively

What was not great:
-no taxi driver would have heard of this hotel, what with only thre rooms and tucked away behind big buildings. I highly suggest that you print out a copy of the location map in thai to show to the driver. You will not see it from the main road, and to access it you have to turn left into a driveway leading to the carpark of King Royal Garden Inn, and then walk a few feet further to the hotel which will stand out clearly given its size and relatively new whitewash. The prominent landmarks are: Sarasok BTS is a min walk out, its next to the famous (and fabulous) Blue Elephant School and Restaurant

http://www.ibrikresort.com/city/map-print.html

-our cab driver didn't know the place - so we tried ringing up the resort for 15 minutes but could not get through. eventually we realized, and do be careful here of the numbers on their website:

Tel. ([--] --> this is the "boss' office number", and no one picked up
Fax. [--] --> the reception picked up this number, even though its a fax. Out of sheer desperation, we rang the fax number and got through !

-bed queen sized was a bit stiff
-no toothpaste
-rain shower could be stronger
-you could hear the guests upstairs walking around, so the ceiling and floor boards were not thick enough
-english channeled cable tv was very limited: about 2 or 3 only
-credit cards while advertised to be accepted and used for making the online deposit could not be used to pay on checking out. A rather weathered sign taped on the reception desk that apologises for the credit card machine being malfunctioned.

Again, overall a delight, and we would stay there again. Its within a 10 min walk from our favourite health/spa place -HealthLand !

“Feeling like at home”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 April 2008

A very small hotel with only 3 guestrooms, in a small garden , 5 min. from the Surasak BTS (skytrain) station, but enough hidden to be away from the terrible noise of Sathorn road. What can you ask more if you want to escape somewhere where you can feel like in your small private house, opening the door into a green small garden, being away from the hustle and bustle of big hotels... A perfect place to spend your time in Bangkok, only one station to the river where you can take any boat to discover the splendours of Bangkok and not getting stucked in the overcrowded traffic. A very clean room with all what you need, a very friendly staff, serving you in the garden near your room door the breakfast. For a good dinner I recommend the Blue Elephant restaurant which is just 5 min. away. It is a little more expansive than usual street stalls, but it is a renowned cooking school there and service is excellent. Make your reservation in advance for that. As concerning the Ibrik Hotel, even if little more expansive than other hotels in Bangkok, you get more of a real vacation here than in a skyscratching building. The ambient , the feeling that you are in your own house is great! Stagffis very friendly and will help with details even if English is not at a high level. Because many people say it is difficult to find the hotel from airport, ask Mrs. Gobe, the manager (a very very helpful lady) to arrange with a taxi for airport pickup. Price is1000 baht. Get changed money because you have to pay your accomodation in Thai baht on arrival at the hotel. Concluding, I can only sincerly reccomend this confortable and pleasent place / Ibrik Hotel to all who want to be in the city but away from its noise.

  • Liked — the place itself, the silence the cleaness and that it is one station away from Chao Praya river

“We loved this hideaway place!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 April 2008

I loved Ibrik immediately---it is located near one of the BTR stations and is a hidden gem. We were greeted with beautiful wooden doors that open to a quiet garden breezeway. I booked the Emerald room which has an amazing wooden bath tub and semi-private garden patio. The rooms are furnished in the old Thai plantation style with dark wooden floors, silk drapes and light walls. Unfortunately for us this was our last night in Bangkok before leaving on an early flight the next morning so we did not get to enjoy the room as much as we wanted to. The staff is very courteous and it feels like you have your own "pied a terre" in Bangkok.

“An Oasis in Bangkok”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 April 2008

A totally unexpected venue in the heart of Bangkok, which would be almost impossible to find without detailed instructions. Enclosed within four tall walls is this otherwise invisible guest house with just three rooms and every amenity you could reasonably require.

We paid a little over $100 for a night here and wished we'd had more time. The peace and comfort in the room was unsurpassed by any other Bangkok residence we'd stayed at. We loved the bed and the bathroom.

Tips:

(1) There's absolutely *nothing* on the cable TV, but that's fine since you shouldn't be watching TV on vacation anyway. :-)

(2) If you have trouble communicating the location to a taxi driver, ask to go to the 'Blue Elephant' (a famous restaurant next door) or the Surasek (sp?) BTS Skytrain station.
