Location
Bandara Suites Silom is located in the business district, on a quiet side street near the embassy row, but is only a few minutes walk (or a tuktuk shuttle away) from the Si Lom (M3) MRT subway and the Sala Daeng (S2) Sky Train stations, the hustle and bustle of Silom Road, and the greenery of Lumpini Park. There is not much in the immediate vicinity, but convenience stores and cafes are a short walk away.
Rooms
The rooms are clean and comfortable. The 1-bedroom suite has a separate large living room, dining area, and kitchen with stovetop burners and microwave, which would be useful for those interested in self-catering (though why self-cater when food seems good everywhere in Bangkok?). I'd be comfortable living here on an extended stay in the city.
The living room has a TV and DVD player, and more important, a large coffee table under bright light which serves as a better work area than the tiny dresser/desk in the bedroom. There were lots of electrical outlets for the assorted gadgets one might need to charge, and up to 3 different devices are supported by the free Wi-Fi service for those who need it for computer, tablet, and phone.
The air conditioning tends to run cold though, even when set at 30 degrees C, so turning it off might be necessary for those who get cold easily. The pillows were too firm for my taste, but sleep quality was overall pretty good, perhaps because of the quiet.
Service
The service from the multilingual staff is helpful and friendly. The hotel seems popular with the embassy crowd, and sits in a row of several serviced residences for expats, so the staff are familiar with the needs of foreigners-- directions, money exchange, transport arrangements, and so on.
For those with laundry needs, the laundry service was 3-fold or even more economical than at other big hotels in the city, but a coin laundry works for those with several pieces. (Self-laundry in the bathroom is tougher-- unlike some hotels, there is no retractable laundry line over the tub.)
Breakfast
Breakfast at the Maison Chin in the next building has a small but delicious selection of Western and Asian staples, salad, and fruit. If the Thai, dimsum, and other breakfast dishes were any indication, Maison Chin's lunch or dinner offerings are probably excellent also.
The hotel scene in Bangkok offers many options, but for those who prefer a little peace and quiet, this is a great place to stay.
Room Tip: Try to upgrade to a suite for the extra space and better lighting.
