“Welcoming & friendly - a lovely Inn”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 February 2012

We loved our stay at the Old Bangkok Inn - it felt much more personal than the big hotels in Bangkok, and the staff was very friendly and attentive. The rooms are all wonderfully decorated in a classic Thai theme (with wooden paneling, antique furniture, beautiful Thai paintings), which allows guests to really soak up a traditional side of Thailand that is hard to come by in the metropolis that is Bangkok, in addition to providing a truly peaceful escape from the noise outside. A computer monitor on an antique desk unit at the head of the beds serves as a TV and computer – there is broadband internet on the computer, but no wi-fi. The weekly weather forecast is tucked in right by the three remote controls (TV, DVD and Air-Con), so that it can’t be missed.

The bathroom is lovely, with a pedestal sink, the shower has organic body soap and shampoo in gorgeous ceramic containers, and there is also an adorable pillow with thread and needles, an original spin on the standard hotel room sewing kit.

The breakfast was truly delightful. In addition to the choice of egg/meat/bread breakfasts, there is practically a buffet of exotic fruits – from small bananas and juicy mandarins to mangoes, pomegranate, mangosteens, Chinese pears, dragon fruit, and plenty of others we have seen but can’t name.

We would definitely stay here again.

“Perfect Place to end my SE Asia Trip”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 January 2012

This hotel is the definition of the much overused term "boutique hotel". Charming, elegant, warm and caring. I just wished I had stayed longer so I will have to return.

“Wonderful oasis and home from home - 5 years later”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 December 2011

5 years ago, as a woman traveling alone for the 1st time in SE Asia, I was incredibly lucky to begin my adventure in the wonderfully atmospheric and beautifully designed OBI which became my home from home ( and where I stayed 3 times in those 10 weeks). I return half a decade later with my husband enroute to Cambodia and Vietnam and we kickstart our trip there. I naturally am concerned it won't live up to my memories, or that the extensive work and personal travel and hotel experiences in between will result in not as good an experience. I needn't have worried. OBI is quite unique, classy, warm, cosy and imbued with a wonderful caring and gentleness which comes directly from the owner Nantiya. There is no need to repeat (but I will endorse) all the wonderful reviews here. Just needed to say I still feel very lucky indeed to have found this Bangkok gem ( and can't wait to try a combo with Joey's Treehouse on my next visit, which I hope will not take another 5 years).

Room Tip: Best to try and Snag Lotus or Rose suite as they provide lots of room and lovely bathrooms.

“Beautiful hotel, great location, fantastic staff”

I stayed at this hotel my 1st 2 nights in Bangkok. I was a disaster when I arrived from the 24 hours of travel - it was 2AM when I got to the hotel, after giving the driver the number to call (I did not print the map as instructed) and he got instructions from the attendant, who was waiting up for me. After that, if I needed a cab, they would review where I wanted to go, write it in Thai, then talk with the cab drivers to make sure I was going to get where I wanted to go. They also wrote the only two words I learned over my entire visit so I would have them to reference. I commented that I liked the orchids in the breakfast area, and they appeared in my room. Computers are available in your room with internet. Then to top it all off, I forgot my shoes in the cabinet in my room when I left. When I came back through Bangkok, I stayed at another hotel close to the airport for a few hours. I emailed the staff about my shoes, and they delivered them to the other hotel with no cost to me. Kind, wonderful, fantastic people.
Breakfast - I was exposed to all of the Thai fruits (provided and explained), coconut yogurt and coconut pancakes, which I wish I could eat every day, and the traditional rice soup. Old Bangkok Inn provided the best breakfast experience I had for my entire month in Thailand.

Room Tip: I didn't check out the other rooms. Mine was perfectly quiet. It was at the top of the stairs...

“Character plus quality”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 December 2011

This was a lovely place to stay in Bangkok, the perfect alternative to a chain hotel. The staff are super helpful and friendly, the rooms are lovely, and the location is really good. Little touches like the small gift left on our bed (we got chopsticks!) and the arrival drink set the hotel apart. But most of all the place is clean, comfortable and full of character - the building is historic and the renovations sympathetic. It also does its best to be a green hotel!
