Maxx Hotel has an excellent gym, a lovely clean swimming pool and the accommodation is of a reasonable standard and good value for money.
During my one week stay I seemed to be the only western guest at the hotel which I believe caters mainly to the Asian tourist market with the breakfast buffet mostly tailored accordingly. The hotel boasts several restaurants however judging by the quality of the breakfast, I did not partake in any other meals at the hotel.
Much patience was required in dealing with the incompetent reception staff who appeared disinterested and unenthusiastic at all times except for one night when I returned with a guest and was promptly pounced upon to pay an additional 600 baht extra person charge. This was despite me having already paid for what I thought was a double room (ie. twice the twin room rate). Be warned that the hotel will not provide so much as a breakfast voucher or even an extra bottle of drinking water for your guest for this charge. The incompetence of the hotel staff can also work in your favour as they completely forgot to charge me for my laundry on checkout.(karma)
I would not stay at the Maxx Hotel again as it is very awkward to get to and is located too far out of town. The hotel advertises a free shuttle bus service however this service was not evident nor offered to me during my stay. Very few taxi drivers will be able to find Maxx Hotel or will have heard of it even when presented with a map and directions.
