My visit on 4th January to Siam City was my first visit to Bangkok. I had no problem with the service or my impression of the hotel, and they were doing renovations when we were there. Everything was done professionally and quietly - in fact you would not have known they were happening.
Siam City is close to the sky train, just walk down the road, same side as the hotel and cross over - usually a policeman/person on duty to help you cross. Once you have access to the sky train, life is easy.
Because of a misunderstanding regarding the price of breakfast we ate at the large shopping centre where value was great; however, on studying the bill on checking out, I found out that the price of the breakfast was not the price told to me verbally when I arrived for breakfast one morning - whether the person misunderstood what I said or whether I misundertood what she said .... remains to be decided.
Other than that, I felt the spa was overpriced, I had a problem with my neck and I thought the staff were a bit pushy in the spa wanting you to have this and that; however, the restaurants on site were great value. We went to the Chinese and the Japanese, but don't order eel - it cost $60 to have six pieces of eel at the Japanese restaurant - our fault we did not ask the price beforehand.
Laundry was done and returned on time, pool was lovely and we enjoyed Happy Hour - the girls there were not only lovely to look out but very friendly. You can go inside the Italian restaurant if the mossies are biting and listen to the piano man play.
So, my apologies to Siam City, it was cheaper than I thought and we had no problem with anyone at any time except the aforementioned.
We also used the services of the travel company on site. Value was terrific and my daughter and I went to Authayya and Bridge on the River Kwai on separate days. I did not think my daughter would enjoy River Kwai but she loved it. We had two hours on the train - what an experience. Long day though, 6am start and back at 7.45pm due to traffic but just great. Authayya was great and I would take friends or recommend both these trips and the travel company who were well organised. A mini bus took us to a central point and then we got on a big bus with other people to and from the hotel.
