“Well located, but not as flash as some other BKK hotels”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

Stayed 5 nights in early February. I was a little disappointed given there
Are some excellent hotels in BKK. The room (on the 17th floor for SPG members) was pretty ordinary the pillows uncomfortable.
Good points on the hotel-
-the airport pick up
- the swimming pool
-the buffets were pretty good
-the location is pretty good and very close to the BTS

Overall it served the purpose and I have no major complaints, but nothing excitd me about the place either.

“Nice service, average facility”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012 via mobile

I stayed at the hotel on a business trip to Bangkok for three nights. The hotel itself is well located and convenient for both business and leisure. The staff are charming and efficient, the airport pickup was very good, check-in was rapid and staff in the various restaurants and bars were friendly. It's the physical material of the hotel that needs some work. The guest rooms are a bit tired as are the meeting rooms. Nothing ghastly, just very average.

Dear Hardtopleaseofhk

Thank you for taking time providing feedback on your recent stay at Plaza Athénée Bangkok, A Royal Méridien Hotel.

Your kind comments are greatly appreciated. Customer care is amongst our highest priorities and it is always gratifying to receive such praise. Hence, I have shared your comments with our associates as everyone works especially hard to provide a professional service.

On the other hand, Plaza Athénée Bangkok, A Royal Méridien has an on going maintenance programme and the hotel schedules all work to be carried out in stages. This inevitably will result in certain areas of the hotel appearing a little ‘dated’. However, I am pleased to learn that you enjoyed every other aspect of your stay with us.

Once again, thank you for taking the time to share your comments. I do hope that you will not judge us solely on the basis of this particular experience and we look forward to welcoming you again to Plaza Athénée Bangkok, A Royal Méridien Hotel.

Kind Regards,

ChooLeng Goh

“Convenient to BTS and shopping area but lack some of the SPG gold benefits”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2012

Located just a short walk to Ploenchit BTS station, Central Chitlom and a bit longer walk to Central Word, the hotel has it's own multiple restaurants. The breakfast buffet hear surpasses all other bangkok hotels that I have stay ( Sheraton Royal Orchid, Centara Grand, Swissotel Park Nai Lert). The room service just OK, I prefer one at Royal Orchid Sheraton better. The room actually not as nice as Royal Orchid Sheraton albeit the hotel lobby is a bit better. The swimming pool area is nice. It doesn't have Tennis Court ( unlike Centara Grand and Royal Orchid). No free Internet for Starwood Gold unlike Westin and Sheraton that I have stayed. Also, no club access or free continental breakfast for SPG Gold either. Requesting late checkout at 6 pm (usually 4 pm for Gold) and was informed that they will let me know. Still haven't heard anything after 2 days here ( compare to Sheraton Royal Orchid that was extended right when I requested). Overall, a very nice hotel , very convenient to Ploenchit BTS, and a superb breakfast buffet. But it lacks some personal touch that I have experienced at the Royal Orchid Sheraton and also lacks the usual SPG Gold benefits that I enjoyed at Westin and Sheraton. Probably would stay at Sheraton Royal Orchid or in this area Renaissance which is newer and usually Marriott Gold has a much better benefits regarding generous club access, free Internet and breakfast even occasionally free laundry for a few items a day.

“Doesn't stand up to its Plaza Athenee brand unfortunately”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2012

I stayed 4 nights in that hotel in January with my girlfriend in what they call a Royal Club Room.

The room in itself is nice and spacious but nothing extraordinary for a 5-star-hotel in Bangkok. The bathroom has a real downside that I couldn't understand, only one sink. I think the building is huge enough so that the architect could have though about putting two sinks in the bathroom but apparently, no.

The club lounge is a good place to relax and enjoy the wi-fi since they don't provide it for free even for Royal Club Rooms (and it's 600 THB per day which is insanely expensive in that city). The choice of drinks is ok and the snacks are okay. Deserts are especially tasty but the rest is not worth the extra money you put to have access to this lounge.

The service isn't outstanding and I had to call twice for several things. The concierge is not knowledgeable at all. Apparently, there is only one woman with Golden Keys but you do not see her very often. I asked a thing to the concierge and he did not find at all. I asked the same to the concierge of the St Regis (where I was just having lunch) and she found and went out of her way to help me.

A good example is that I was not told upon check-in that I was allowed two free pieces of laundry, that I could eat breakfast at the Rain Tree Cafe and not only in the club lounge and also they did not even mention the facilities of the hotel.

The buffet at the Rain Tree Cafe is actually the upside of that hotel, ranked #1 on TripAdvisor. It does have an incredible choice and fresh products.

All in all a very average experience which shows that it's not a Plaza Athenee anymore but closer to a Meridien level. I will stay somewhere else next time.
