“Stylish and a foodies paradise”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

The spacious entrance is beautifully lit at night and the staff are helpful - they had excellent sighseeing suggestions and booked cars for us so we could explore outer Bangkok (we went to the floating markets and the Tiger Temple, which was a once-in-a-lifetime experience). What I liked most was the food. For starters, we had the most delicious room service (amazing corn cakes and soup) and the breakfast was so moorish I asked for the recipes and I’m still craving the almond meal porridge. The set menu at the restaurant Nahm, created by an award-winning Australian chef, was enough food to feed two (even with a huge appetite I could not eat it all or even contemplate having dessert). Nahm would have to be the best thai food I’ve ever tasted.

Room Tip: I had a twin room on the 9th floor and it had a great bathroom and was very quiet.

“A sleek hotel away from the chaos of Bankok”

The Metropolitan, as the title suggests, is a modern and classy respite from the 'thousand miles an hour' pace of Bangkok.
When we first arrived, it seemed to be buried in a back street, but in the light of day we could see we were nestled in a district housing many foreign embassies. This contemporary hotel certainly offers a comfortable and sleek style without losing its Asian feel.
We had booked a Metropolitan room that was quite simply, huge! The bed was enormous too.... The room was complete with a desk and lounge furniture. The bathroom was on a similar scale with a wet room style shower enclosure and a separate bathtub. The breakfast was superb and cooked to order. The staff were always more than attentive, perhaps too attentive but that is part of the Thai culture I feel.
The pool is quite sizable given that the hotel is located in a built up area and the Spa facilities were immaculate offering a very welcome ‘wind down’ after a day battling with tuk tuk's and the manic pace of Bangkok.
We were offered free cocktails at the Met bar and stumbled across a themed 'French night' where local business people clearly frequent on a regular basis... It was certainly a surreal experience where you could imagine many deals taking place....
Would I recommend the Metropolitan? Yes, definitely I would and we will stay again when in transit.

Room Tip: The Metropolitan rooms are best

“a little bit ragged around the edges..service not quite up to the mark..”

I've always been quite fond of the Met, principally because of the clean lines of the rooms/public spaces, but it does look like a refurbishment is overdue..the breakfast is superb, everything that one would want, and such a relief not to have wade through a tired buffet..the concierge service is definitely not of the standard one would expect..we were disappointed that the Met Bar is clearly past its heyday..I must mention that when our check-in was slightly prolonged due to a mix up in billing, the receptionist very graciously gave us vouchers for a free drink each at the Met Bar..

“Good Location, Trendy Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

The hotel is ideal for your stay in Bangkok. It has a nice bar (met Bar) where the staff were amazing.

The pool is nice, though small and gets only about 5 hrs sun due to the tall building blocking it, but you shouldn't really be in Bangkok to sunbathe.

Rooms are nice and spacy for a city hotel and quite trendy with big bathrooms, they did feel like mini suites especially compared to somewhere like New York!

The restaurant looks good but we did not eat there, but I have heard great reviews, we ate at Lebu (sirocco) which was amazing but very expensive, the street food was to die for in Bangkok, so jump in.

Mango Tree restaurant was good!

We felt that The Met was a young stylish trendy hotel, nothing wow about it but very understated and chic.

We did go for a drink at Hilton Hotel which was very good, but I know this was a little pricey.

to summarise I think The Met is ideal and has a bit of everything, good location good service and nice bar and restaurant!

It got 4 because we save 5 for hotels with the extra wow factor, this hotel is great but not enough for the wow! get a Tuk Tuk or taxi anywhere they are cheap as chips and its some much fun turning up outside the hotel reception in one, we arent posh!!!

I hope this review helps!!!

Room Tip: high room, as gives you a nice view of the city

“Very classy, wish I could stay longer”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 January 2012

I was booked into the Metropolitan by the staff at my office due to the sheer lack of availability of rooms all over Bangkok due to Chinese New Year. My colleagues and I had to be in Bangkok for a business meeting but ended up having to be booked into 3 different hotels, and I luckily got booked into the Metropolitan. Though its a little hard to get to, since its situated in a 'blink and you'll miss it' soi (lane) on Sathorn road, but the property itself is rather serene and classy. The room is also designed keeping in mind the simple, chic structure of the rest of the hotel. The room was spacious and comfortable, built to cater to the needs of a business traveler, with a large work station to set up my laptop and conference requirements. Also the bathroom was really beautiful, designed with soft shades of earth tones and sandstone columns. The best thing about the Metropolitan has to be their newest restaurant, the Michelin star Thai restaurant called 'Namm' is something to check out if you are a foodie like me. Although its rather expensive, the food captures the true taste of Royal Thai cuisine. I will definitely be trying to make sure I stay at the Metropolitan again the next time I have work in Bangkok.

Room Tip: My room was on the 9th floor, and it was very nice.
