This hotel is an absolute steal and was a gem from arrival to departure. Our small group of travellers all agree that on future visits to Bangkok, this is where we would stay.
SERVICE: Unlike many hotels in Thailand, Bangkok Loft Inn was incredibly responsive from the get-go and made a great impression. Free pick up was provided (3 nights stay) from the airport so there was nothing to worry about. On arrival, the front desk was completely prepared: Fresh juice on arrival, sign-in sheets, room keys, wifi codes, maps with the hotel marked on it. Our luggage was brought up to our rooms in a flash. Payment was made on the last day by credit card or cash. There was always a friendly smile waiting at the front desk with any questions or just to say hi. Each night when we got home, they would flag us down and ask for our breakfast request. Without a doubt, they have one of the best breakfast spreads I have experienced in Thailand. In the bright eating area, milk, yogurt, breads/toasts and many fresh fruits are laid out. A wonderful thai treat was always there is well, usually a sticky rice dessert for us to try (see pic). That alone would be enough, but the personalized selection allowed for another hot plate for breakfast. Usually we picked the American breakfast or else the rice congee with pork (more the Chinese variation but so delicious).
ROOMS: Many places in Thailand are decorated with heavy old fashion wood or very traditional Thai colours. This was not the case. The room were cheerful and trendy like an upscale boutique hotel, which was completely unexpected given the prices we were paying! Everything was perfectly clean. The beds were cozy (softer than typical Thai mattresses) and the duvet warm. Bathroom had a narrow counter but a spacious shower with good pressure. Added bonuses included a safe deposit box, a small fridge, and new bottles of drinking water each day. Air conditioning was not on in the hallways, but certainly in the rooms and public areas.
LOCATION: I notice people complaining about the location. True, it is not located in the heart of Sukhumvit or the wat area. But it is no less accessible. Part of the charm in living in Thonburi is that you aren't lost in hoards of tourists or getting harrassed by souvenir stalls with every step. It means nearby street food at great prices! (Advice: From the front door, look diagonally to your left, there are a bunch of fluorescent tubes lighting a sidewalk restaurant. EAT THERE! The food was cheap, hot, fresh and superb.) The Wongwian Yai BTS is south of the hotel (head left and left again). Just 10 minutes walking time from hotel to train door. A 120 baht daypass (one way is 30-40 baht) and you can ride the BTS worry-free. From Wongwian, it is 5 minutes to Taksin Saphan, the stop for Chao Praya Express boats that take you to Wat Arun, Wat Po and Wat Phra Kaew. To the various malls and restaurants on Sukhumvit (MBK, Siam Paragon, Terminal 21) it is 10 to 20 minutes. Nothing is hard to get to. We virtually needed no help getting around. For airport transfers, it takes about 25-45 minutes depending on the time, and taxis cost 500 baht for 4 people.
Amazing hotel, hearty breakfasts, accessible transit - a wonderful stay.
