My wife and I stayed here for 5 nights in a river view room. The room was very spacious with a small kitchen area with a microwave, fridge and kettle, plus a few bits of cutlery and crockery. Certainly enough equipment for a light snack but not much more. There is a small Seven Eleven supermarket very nearby where it’s possible to buy some light food and drinks etc, so the facility is useful.
The bathroom was pretty good with marble tiles and a freestanding shower as well as a bath and was kept clean during our stay except that towels were not changed very regularly. The room overall lacked a "wow" factor though. There was nothing wrong with it but it just needed something to lift it above the average.
The rest of the hotel was excellent in terms of layout and decor. It has a small gym that had fairly new equipment and a lap pool overlooking the river. There are far too few loungers by the pool and service is pretty well non-existent unless you go to the bar and ask for something. The staff were excellent, very friendly and willing.
Breakfast is good although options are quite limited. We had dinner there once and the food was reasonably good but the drinks super-expensive. What really spoiled the hotel for me was the constant muzak everywhere in the hotel. It plays by the pool and in the restaurant. The problem is that it was quite loud and intrusive, I found it difficult to read while beside the pool because of the noise. During breakfast they played the same CD over and over, every day. If you like to take a while over breakfast as we do, you'll hear the same songs repeated about 10 times during the week.
The worst example of the music intrusion is in the outdoor area of the restaurant. The one time that we sat there, the weather was very warm and tables overlook the river but there was a 3-piece band playing that was so loud we couldn't hold a conversation. They play every day except one, I think. The upside is that it's very easy to get a table outside since very few guests eat there!
The other big downside for us is the conference/function facility. It has an outside dining area, just above the pool deck. It too overlooks the river so if you have a river view, you could also get some noise disturbance from the parties down below since they go on well into the night.
The staff, as I said, were excellent and one stand out memory remains. It was my wife's birthday while we were there and she had some birthday cards displayed on the dressing table that day. The cleaning staff noticed that and, late in the evening, we found a beautiful birthday cake in the room - a really nice touch we felt.
Overall, there are certainly some drawbacks at this hotel but it does offer fantastic value for money and, on balance, if we had the opportunity to stay there again, we probably would.
Room Tip: Like everyone else we suggest asking for a river view room on as high a floor as possible.
