Firstly, there are 2 Baan Dinso properties and I am proud to stay I stayed in both due to extraordinary circumstances. Baan Dinso 2 is the one right by the Democracy Monument. It is an old building converted to a cozy place. Single room is very small but bright and minimalist, working AC, fast WIFI and just enough :)
I arrived overwhelmed...because I did not realize the protest has grew to bigger and bigger crowd and crazily, the center stage which is right at the door step of BaanDinso2 went all night and all day with the speech, music and every thing you can think of that enliven a peaceful protest (so it is a like a People's Party). Mem, the owner looked stressed because understandably she was losing customers who couldn't stand the 24hour noise. (Imagine football stadium loudness times 10 because there are about 1million people on Sunday Nov24th). After the restless first night and possibility of being moved to Baan Dinso original, I decided to stay in for 2nd night, this time armed with earplugs (graciouly provided by Mem!). By Monday at noon, I was already in my cozy single room in Baan Dinso 1 (the original)...and what a refuge it is!!! The house is so charming and full of character that I did not feel bad to stay in all day...It is just so beautiful and the staff maintain the house to be very neat and spotless! These young, friendly and polite staff are really stars to the already bright house...
These BaanDinso properties are easily found, they are between the Democracy Monument and the Giant Swing/Bangkok City Hall area. You will be very happy to stay here because plenty of nice little restaurants in the area, main attractions are within walking distance and if you want to go to the Siam (where major shopping malls are located), you just walk through Khao San/Rambutri, find Phra Artit Pier, pay 40THB on tourist boat, get off at Thaksin Pier and take the Sky Train to Siam Station... easy!
So if you are looking for a refuge in the centre of old Bangkok, close to many main attractions (that include street food in Khao San and Rambutri area) this is the place.
Just note that the house is old wooden house so light sleepers beware. (The house has a rule anyway to keep the noise minimum and you will naturally oblige).
Hope you will have a lovely time and feel taken care of like I have when you are staying in Baan Dinso!
