“Friendly, efficient, clean, convenient, comfortable... what's more do your want?”

We stayed at Dong Wu for 4 nights for our Babymoon holiday, and we can't recommend this hotel enough!!!

When we first arrive by cab (caught airport bus to Taipei MRT Station, then cab), I was a bit disappointed with the surroundings of the hotel, even though I have google map it before... but once you realise the setup of most Taipei hotels are surrounded by local shops, it grows on you!

We could not praise enough about the hotel staff, they speak very good English (especially compare to Taiwan's general standard). They are extremely helpful, for example, when we realise (more like panicking) that we didn't have an adaptor for our laptop/iPhones, we went down to the reception to ask where we can buy one... and the respond? "You can borrow one of ours!"

Also, they are very efficient as well, an example is that we told the night staff that we need a cab to the airport but haven't confirm the time... the next day, the day-time staff follow up with us when they saw us in the lobby! Note that if you arrange taxi with them to the airport, the price is fixed at NT$1,000!

The included breakfast is okay, it's a East meet West affair, but the East stuff is a bit bizzare for me (born & bred HK girl, probably didn't know enough of Taiwanese food)... so I stick with plain congee with meat floss, soy milk and (mostly) toast, lol!

The bed is super comfy, especially after a few hours of walking the night market(s) every night! The shower/bath is clean, the air con is a tad noisy but nothing that interrupt sleep. Dong Wu is definitely going to be our home away from home every time we go to Taipei!!!

Ok, some other things we found very handy:
- if you have a smartphone, go to MyFone to get your Prepaid SIM card... we pay NT$350 (plus NT$345, the value of the card) to get 7 days unlimited data and still have enough $ to call each other during our 4 days' stay.
- Taipei is very pregnant friendly (in regards to bathroom!!!) => they have clean bathroom at every MRT station!!! Albeit most of them are trough-style, which I found harder to get up in comparison to pre-pregnancy, it is by far more hygenic!
- It's super easy to travel by MRT, even for native English speaker that does not know any Chinese word (aka my hubby lol).

“A luxurious budget hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 January 2012

Having had bad experiences at a few budget hotels, I was quite skeptical when I read the many great reviews about this hotel at tripadvisor. Took a risk and booked the hotel. The on-line booking was challenging and not very user friendly. Almost gave up but decided to drop an email to the hotel. Promptly received a reply which sorted all my requirements. Although it was off-peak season, the hotel was quite well booked and all the better rooms were taken up. Was only able to get the lower end rooms that were "windowless". Kept my fingers crossed and showed up at the hotel. Was pleasantly surprised at every turn from check in to check out.
The "windowless room" was not bad at all. It actually felt quite nice and cosy. The decent furnishing and the layout of the room certainly helped to give you a good sense of psychological space.
The most important thing about budget hotels is cleanliness and Dong Wu get top marks. The rooms and every nook and corner of the hotel was spotlessly clean. The furnishings were well maintained. The bathrooms were of a reasonable size not the usual claustrophobic cells that you find in less expensive hotels. The hotel facilities were spartan but everything works and are in tip top condition. Wireless internet works like a charm and with good speed. If you forgot to bring your computer, there are desktops available in the dining area which doubles up as a lounge. It is also well stocked with wide range of magazines that will put any airport lounge to shame. The buffet breakfast is a decent spread, mainly Asian cuisine. Not fantastic but certainly decent enough for most people.
Location is not its strong point if you like shopping within walking distance. It is located in the older residential part of Taipei which is a little run down. But like most parts of Taipei it is safe to walk even late at night. Although away from the shopping and tourist sites, it is functionally well located. The Daqiaotou MRT station is less than 5 minutes walk from the hotel. However it is towards the end of the new "Luzhou line" and changing trains is a necessity to get to most places that a tourist wants to go. There is 7 Eleven convenience store right next door. There is also a small night market behind the hotel which sell all manner of street food that those with a strong stomach might want to try. There are also lots of shops and eateries around the hotel.
Overall, it is a great hotel for folks who like explore a city on their own, traveling around using the local subway, buses and trains. It is clean, safe, comfortable and you will be served by really helpful staff. The hotel really go the extra mile to be helpful to guests especially those who cant speak the Chinese language. It takes pride in having had good reviews which will probably ensure that it will continue to be a great hotel to stay in. In the lobby it proudly displays the 2011 TripAdvisor award. It even prints it on the room key cards.

Room Tip: Book early if you want the higher end rooms.

“Great Hotel!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 January 2012

Stayed for a week at this hotel. Excellent service culture for all staff, Clean Rooms & reasonably priced comparing with hotels around the area.

Only downside is the location. Nearest public transport is public bus. Journey to the nearest MRT is a long 20 minutes’ walk. This journey will become treacherous after you with done your shopping with multiple bags with you.

So, if you are comfortable travelling by public bus, this is a great hotel for you.

“Fantastic Stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 January 2012

We stayed at this property for 4 nights. Everything about the hotel was just GREAT. I had originally booked this stay via email with the hotel directly. I had booked 5 nights, but then due to a change in plans, we only ended up staying for 4. However, I had forgotten to contact the hotel to tell them that I would not be showing up until the 2nd night. When I finally arrived at the hotel, they didn't even question me and just charged me for 4 nights stay, even though they could have charged me for 5.

The room came with free breakfast in the cafe. It was a very typical Asian breakfast consisting of fruit, congee, toast, chinese veggies, etc. Nothing spectacular.

The room itself was very spacious. Even the bathroom was very large. The only complaint I have is that the tub was very high. Children would have trouble getting in and out of the tub. I'm 5'5" and even I found it awkward at times getting in and out of the tub. We received 2 free bottls of water everyday as well as a huge assortment of teas and coffees.

The location of the hotel is quite convenient, as it's located close to a metro stop. It's only a 5 minute walk to the entrance of Daqiaotou Metro station, but this is a bit deceiving. Once you get to the entrance, there's still an underground tunnel that you have to go through for another 5 minutes or so before you get to the actual metro entrance, so in reality, it's more like a 10 minute walk to the metro station.

Getting to the hotel was not difficult either. From Daqiaotou station, you follow the signs for Exit 1 Elementary School. This is important to take note of, as exit 1 splits into two. You need to follow the signs for the elementary school, which lead you through a very bright underground tunnel. Once you come outside, you will see a red sign for USA American Language Center. If you're facing the sign, you need to take the road that's just right of the language center (your left, if you're facing the sign). Follow the road for about 5 minutes and you'll see a 7 Eleven. Once you've found the 7 Eleven, the hotel is right behind it, a few more steps down the street.

“Value for Money”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 January 2012

Stayed at the hotel for 4 nights. Hotel staffs were very helpful and informative. My only problem is the ongoing road upgrading work which is very disturbing in the wee hours.

Good public transportation network. Nearest MRT station Daqiatao is less than 10min walk. There are also public buses nearby heading to National Palace museum, Taipei train station, Ximending, etc.

There are 2 night markets within walking distance. However, do avoid going during weekend because night markets are usually overly crowded.

7 Eleven & Carrefour are nearby as well

Room Tip: Probably go for the room without a window. At least it won't disturb you if there is upgrading...
