“A bit worn, under renovation”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 January 2012

Located in a fairly central location, the Westin Taipei is a bit worn down and currently under renovation. Lobby is clearly being renovated as of today, the question is whether all the rooms will be updated as well. There is a notice in the room that renovations are underway but it is not clear how broadly this will be undertaken. The room that I was in was slightly dated – and could use a renovation.

Getting There: A Taxi from Taoyuan International Airport will cost approximately NT$1100 inbound and there is a fixed pre-negotiated rate of NT$1200 from the hotel to the airport. Budget approximately 45 minutes to get to or from the airport. NOTE: as a general rule, Taxis in Taipei do not have credit card capability so you will need local currency.

Night restaurant market - there is a two block area with night restaurants approximately 4 blocks from the hotel, and is worth the short walk to try some of the food. Go left out of the front door about 100 feet, there will be a stop light - cross the street , go down the alley, take the first left and then keep right. Or, the hotel consigner and they can give you a local map

Taipei 101 – the skyscraper is a short taxi ride away, and should be approximately NT$200 one way.

Overall, location wise it was convenient for what I needed to do, and if they in fact renovate the rooms it would have slightly better ratings. The value will depend on your rate -- I was paying about NT$6000 per night + tax and + service and thought that this was reasonable.

“Exceptional service!”

We stayed 4 nights at the Westin Taipei at the beginning of the year. We were unexpectedly given an upgrade to a Guest Office Room which was slightly larger than the usual Deluxe room, and breakfast was also thrown in. What a pleasant surprise! Even though the hotel is undergoing renovation, and we had to use 2 sets of elevators to get to and from our rooms to the lobby, we did not mind, as the staff were so warm and helpful, and they were constantly apologising for the inconvenience. The Heavenly Beds are so comfortable and huge... it was hard waking up in the mornings! The only disappointment was the buffet breakfast, which I thought could have been of a higher quality, for a 5-star hotel. The coffee was average, which was a bit of a letdown, but we found an excellent coffee place round the corner called Magic Lamp which satisfied our coffee cravings! The location of the Westin is good, and a very short walk to the MRT station. What impressed us most was the service of all the staff throughout our stay. On the last day when we checked out, I was very unwell, and needed to place to rest before our night flight. The staff were very kind (and discreet) to arrange for me to rest in the lounge at the 9th floor gym area. They got a nurse (Echo was her name) to attend to me, and gave me tea, towels, water, and made me as comfortable as possible. In particular, Edith from the gym was very helpful and attentive.I am very grateful to the staff for getting me through that day! The warmth and professionalism of the staff are what makes the Westin experience so wonderful! I highly recommend this hotel!

“Very good location and Westin Service”

We stayed at this hotel over New Year - and whilst part of the hotel is under rennovation - the stay was still excellent.
The newly furbished rooms (whilst a little small) are clean, modern and have all the mod cons you need. Plus the Heavenly Beds are to die for. Service is excellent and the staff very helpful.
The location of this hotel is great also.
All in all - despite the renovations i'd defiantely stay here again when i'm back in Taiwan.

It's good location and typical Westin hotel. There was unexpected upgrade. Room was enough big and clean. However due to renovation, lobby, gym and some restaurant was inconvenience.
Starwood privilege AP membership was applied. So we could enjoy food discount.

“Lovely New Rooms and Friendly Staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 December 2011

We had the fortune to stay at the Westin for 4 nights. We arranged 2 rooms, a suite and a deluxe, for our family (with teenage son), both rooms were very well appointed. The suite was luxurious, large living area, the bedroom fantastic with king size 'heavenly' bed. Thought renovations are ongoing, the 3 floors are sealed and we could hear no noise in the rooms, and only minor noise when walking through the hotel. The staff made ever measure to ensure our stay was great. We are SPG members, thus also enjoyed access to the excellent Club Lounge for afternoon tea and evening cocktails. Starbucks right next door for those in need of a quick coffee fix, and MRT station only a few minutes by foot. We would definitely stay again.

Room Tip: East facing rooms have view of Taipei 101
