Located in a fairly central location, the Westin Taipei is a bit worn down and currently under renovation. Lobby is clearly being renovated as of today, the question is whether all the rooms will be updated as well. There is a notice in the room that renovations are underway but it is not clear how broadly this will be undertaken. The room that I was in was slightly dated – and could use a renovation.
Getting There: A Taxi from Taoyuan International Airport will cost approximately NT$1100 inbound and there is a fixed pre-negotiated rate of NT$1200 from the hotel to the airport. Budget approximately 45 minutes to get to or from the airport. NOTE: as a general rule, Taxis in Taipei do not have credit card capability so you will need local currency.
Night restaurant market - there is a two block area with night restaurants approximately 4 blocks from the hotel, and is worth the short walk to try some of the food. Go left out of the front door about 100 feet, there will be a stop light - cross the street , go down the alley, take the first left and then keep right. Or, the hotel consigner and they can give you a local map
Taipei 101 – the skyscraper is a short taxi ride away, and should be approximately NT$200 one way.
Overall, location wise it was convenient for what I needed to do, and if they in fact renovate the rooms it would have slightly better ratings. The value will depend on your rate -- I was paying about NT$6000 per night + tax and + service and thought that this was reasonable.
