“Great Value - Good Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2011

we were a bit iffy on this hotel as the reviews for the Crown Plaza Taipei (which it formally was) were mixed. however, the value was great. the rooms were clean and good sized all in a convenient location.

the staff was friendly and helpful.

i think the only thing that could stand for some improvement would be the food. the restaurant (which to be fair, we did not eat) did not seem appetising nor did room service.

“Worst room but, friendliest staff”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 December 2010

As soon as I walked in, I could smell the moldy smell everyone had been talking about.
The room was so dingy and run down and felt like I needed to sanitize everything first.
The room quality was rated about a 2 star hotel while the staff were closer to a 5 star hotel.
I was surprised they had a cot for the baby but, when they rolled in the creaky old wooden cot with 1.5" of dust I could not beleive they brought it to my room without wiping it down first.
The bathroom was old.
The walls were so thin that you could hear someone coughing!
The location was mediocre because you had to take a cab everywhere.
If you're on a tight budget and don't care about the facilities, this might be your place.
The wifi only works in the lobby but, it's free so that was nice.

“Horrible moldy smell”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 July 2010

Stayed at this hotel for Computex in June - the hotel was one of the recommended hotels for the show so I thought it would be a safe bet. The staff were all very nice, but that's all I can say about this hotel that is good. The location was poor, the restaurants were not good, the lobby bar was tiny, the fitness center was a bad joke, and worst of all, the entire hotel reeked of mold. One of the worst business travel hotels I have ever stayed in. .

“Adequate, and...well, that's about it”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 May 2010

At the risk of painting with a broad brush...I've stayed in 3 business hotels in Taipei, and found them all to be underwhelming. This is the nicest of the three, but is in the same vein. I was upgraded to the "business" floor -- a large room, and clean, but very dated and tired in that aging hotel kind of way. For about $80 a night, and supposedly 4*, I would expect a little nicer. The bed was rock hard, as have all the beds I've had in Taipei hotels.

The location is so-so. An easy taxi ride to almost anywhere, but a long walk from the metro (15-20 minutes). This part of Songshan has a lot of activity, but Nanjing-Lu (the street out front) has been under construction for years, and it's starting to tell on the surrounding buildings, lots of empty store fronts and the whole place looks pretty tired. Also, the construction noise goes well into the night.

The fitness center was kind of sad, looked like no one had ever used it. There was pretty good free internet in the rooms.

“great staff. comfortable stay.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 March 2010

stayed at this hotel for 6 months from june - december 2009.

pros:
-GREAT staff! from front desk, to housekeeping, to concierge, to room service, to restaurants, to the lady taking care of the gym, they are all simply wonderful!
-cleaner and newer rooms on club floor.
-great chinese restaurant at level 2. loved the dimsums!
-prompt services, be it room service or housekeeping.
-centralized location. 10minutes drive from taipei 101 area.
-convenient store is right next to the hotel.
-internet connection steady and fast.

cons:
-the deluxe rooms are a little worn out. could use some refurbishments.
-no swimming pool.
-buffet breakfast selections are dull. quite the same food over the six months i'm there.
