We were at Kathmandu in Oct 2011, we stayed 2 night at the hotel, good location and clean rooms, we stayed at the roof top room, there are no lift, so you have to walk up to your room. It is at Thamel area, so we were in the middle of the tourist area. Would recommend this hotel.

After a very poor experience in a Thamel mid-range hotel I was recommended the International Guest House by a Nepali friend. Very good value for money, friendly staff and lovely clean rooms . PLus peaceful gardens and a good hot water supply and they gave me a packed breakfast and flask of tea at 5.00am before I left for my flight home. I wouldn't stay anywhere else.

The staff are lovely and friendly; very helpful and polite. The garden is a tranquil haven in the midst of the chaos of Kathmandu. The room was fine but there was no easy escape from the 4th floor in the event of fire.
The room had UK style power sockets.
Curiously the lighting in the foyer was dim to the point of pitch darkness.
Compared to the Hotel Vaishali I'd choose this one.

Very impressive looking from the outside with nice courtyard and shared balconies. Nice on the inside as well.

Positives:
-friendly and helpful staff
-good location out of the main throng but close enough to everything
-great shower (pressure and plenty of hot water)
-clean

Negatives:
-VERY hard bed, so check out your bed before you buy
-inconsistent breakfast (stale cornflakes, eggs either under or over cooked, not so appetizing baked goods)

Would stay here again for sure but will probably look for another option for next visit
