We stayed here for the third time at the end of Sept 2010 and felt the place is living off its reputation. It has become overpriced, the included breakfast was disappointing. The previous benefit of tranquility has been lost with the all-day loud noise from a neighbouring religious establishment. I'm sad to say that next time we are in Kathmandu we will be looking for some where else.

opinions of this hotel will probably vary widely depending on the room you end up in.

if you're a hardcore backpacker who wants to pay $5/night, you might be disappointed.

if you're a midrange traveler who doesn't mind paying $50, you might be disappointed (because you can get more at other places for that price).

and if you're a high end traveler...well, then i'm not sure why you'd want to pay $100 for a room at the KGH, because you probably wouldn't want to stay smack in the middle of thamel in the first place.

that being said, at $30-$35 the garden facing room w/ multiple beds (2 to 4) and private bathroom is not a bad deal (albeit the bathroom being on the small side). but there's probably only a dozen or so rooms that do that, out of a 121 rooms. so your changes of scoring these rooms at that price are at about 10% to 15%.

good luck.

If u wanna have the feeling of a traveller this is the place to stay, though the rooms are quite cheap starting from 1 US$ - 80 US$ approx, 80 being the best which stayed at. Other rooms depend on ur choice. The food is gr8 aswell the entrance to the guset house, where u have an open bar & a restaurant set amongst an open garden view, its the best place of the Guest house to be around. No words to describe it, truly mind blowing place, just if u can compromise a bit on luxury. Best place to stay in Thamel, ktm.

A well positioned guest house in central Thamel. This is not a modern facility by any means but is in keeping with the local area. Probably slightly over priced for what it is but its central location in the 'hub' of the Thamel district compensates for that. The rooms are basic but adequate and there is a good bar and restaurant. Friendly and helpful staff.

Whilst this hotel looks very pleasant it is grossly overpriced for what you get, especially if you book the more expensive rooms (expecting better rooms)!

We opted to book the deluxe rooms and were very disappointed and inconvenienced. None of the rooms have refrigerators, despite the claim on the description and they also do not have 2 double beds as described which ensure that fully grown men had to share a single double bed.

Check out the pictures of the double rooms and then check out the picture I have attached, see if there is any resemblance!

The public areas of the hotel are very nice and the location in the middle of Thamel makes it very convenient but my advice is to look elsewhere. There are better places to stay for better money.
