“Nice rooms - let down by the food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 November 2010

Stayed in November '10.
A modern hotel located in central Thimpu - rooms were excellent - very comfortable, clean, tidy decoration, TV, comfy bed, clean bathroom & heater available - no complaints with the room.
The restaurant, though looking good, disappoints with the food - poor selection, not too appetizing & generally a let down for what is a nice hotel ..... they just serve minimal variety of standard tourist buffet fare - they have a la carte (in theory) but it takes forever to arrive & was not that good when it did show up !!
Improve the food & you'll have an all round great property.

“Only visited did not stay”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 May 2010

Had visited Jumolhari on my recent trip to Bhutan. Asked to see a room. Was taken on the 3rd floor by stairs. The hotel does not have a lift. The 3rd floor was more like an attic with very low ceiling and small room. Stayed at the Kisa - reviewed seperately. However did have two meals at the Jumolhari. Had tried the Indian food which was very nice. Took 30-45 min to server so might be better to order and come back at a specified time. Nice reception area.

“Western style hotel in centre of Thimphu”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 May 2010

Good location on main street. Western rather than Bhutanese style hotel. Large reception area with easy chairs, desk and newspapers. Dining room behind. Reception staff had variable English and changed our Indian 500r notes into 100ng notes

Large bedroom on first floor looked out over back across demolition site to National Stadium and hills beyond. Enter into small sitting area with settee, easy chair and table. Bedroom long and narrow with comfortable twin beds with small table between. Table under mirror with kettle and tea bags (not always replaced). TV, arm chair and occasional table. Free internet access.

Large en suite bathroom with plenty of towels changed daily. Cleaning staff responsible for rooms had small office/cupboard on landing. Very friendly and keen to help. Fascinated by pictures of family and where we lived.

Ate in hotel every night. Evening meals excellent. Busy first night with groups and buffet put out. Decided to chose off a la carte menu. Wide choice of Bhutanese, Chinese and European food. Excellent. Next night ate from buffet. Good range food. Last night no buffet as no groups. Meal served to us without ordering.

Breakfast variable and could be strange selection. First morning chaotic as not enough staff and and took 25min to get cup tea. Lots complaints about service which was better next morning.

Books warn of noise made by dog’s barking at night but didn't hear any.

A 'reliable' choice. It didn't sparkle but apart from the breakfast one morning we couldn't fault the place.

“Good”

Stayed at the Jumolhari, a standard hotel in Thimphu, for a couple of nights after our 5 day trek in the cold of December. The room was pleasantly warm with the heater. After a week of not checking my e-mails, the temptation here was too great with free fast speed internet access at the business centre (2 terminals) at room 105 and wifi.

When we arrived, our name was displayed on a board near the reception. It was the low season, so our food had to be ordered ala carte for lunch and dinner. We found the selection of Bhutanese, Indian and continental dishes quite good and tastes good. Tea was brought up to our room the first day and our slection for lunch was taken at our room. The hotel staff in general are helpful. There have been some reviews about the restaurant but we found the staff to be very helpful and attentive.

Very comfortable and clean. We had a room facing the main street but had no problems with any noise at all. No sound of dogs either. The hotel is situated very conveniently almost in the heart of town with some nice tres along the road outside the hotel. You can just stroll around town and do some shopping during your free time which is what we did.

“Better than the rest”

Every body in our group of twelve would agree that this was the best hotel we stayed on our trip to Bhutan. Over all a pleasant stay but will recommend to get rooms facing away from the street. Rooms are nice & clean and the food decent. The hotel looked after us remarkably well.
