“Good value, friendly, clean, safe.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 December 2011

An excellent find in the centre of Lusaka, behind Manda Hill Shopping Centre. Big rooms, nicely appointed. You'll need to add a power bar, not enough plugs, and few soap amenities - but that is what shopping centre proximity is for! Restaurant offers good food at reasonable prices. Bar is a favourite with locals, great support for Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool (fewer Manchester supporters), lively debates, good prices, cold beer. What ,ore coud you ask for? All at < half the price of Intercontinental, Taj or Southern Sun.

“Poor”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 October 2011

We stayed for two separate nights either side of our trip to Mufwe. First night we had a room for three which we thought was just poor because it was underused as a friend had stayed before and found their double very nice. The first room had broken kettle (not a big deal), then we discovered no hot water, toilet did not flush, air-con unit was broken and wall light was falling off. We asked for this to be sorted so they sent a maid who brought a new kettle, could not fix the hot water and patched up the toilet so it flushed once then broke again. Second night was just a joke (double room this time). Walked in nice looking room flat screen TV etc. Then again no water, we were told it would heat up in 20 mins (after asking twice) it did not. We went out for dinner came back checked again not working and not working in the morning. The attitude of the staff was awful the girl on reception (who seems to think alot of herself) was just so uninterested and just fobbed us off after we reported each time it was not working. We also then witnessed another guest book a room for more than half the price we had paid to confound the feeling that we had been ripped off. I also need to mention the sink was coming off the wall, the mosquito net was ripped, there were damp patches on the wall and when I moved the bed side table the wall socket fell out the wall. This place was probably good a couple of years ago but is tired and needs new staff and a refurb. I will finish on a high they looked after a suitcase in between our two stays at no cost but this and the flat screen TV do not make up for a below par service/room.

“Good quality for what you pay, nice quiet location”

This is the second time we have stayed at Chita Lodge and the rooms are very comfortable. Although the breakfast is a little to be desired, the pool and bar area are lovely. The staff are very helpful and it has a great location, in a quiet area but within walking distance to the big shopping mall (Manda Hill).

“Good value in Lusaka”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 June 2011

Wow, Lusaka is an expensive place! This place was recommended to us and a welcome change in price (although still not cheap) from the Intercontinental which was very nice but really too expensive. This place had a lovely large room, well decorated, a nice pool, and a nice outdoor bar/restaurant. The plumbing wasn't quite right in the room but I can' t fault them for that because I never complained about it!! Dinner was very nice and we enjoyed meeting some other travelers (also at breakfast). I see from other reviews that people found it noisy but this was NOT our experience.

“Poorly run, Dirty, Loud”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 June 2011

So, I've traveled to over 20 countries in Africa and have stayed in numerous different kinds of hotels and lodges and guest houses. (You can see some of my other reviews on TripAdvisor to determine my expectations and standards.)

I am still at the Chita Lodge, unfortunately, and really dislike it. I am here for 1 week with 3 colleagues and we are paying USD $122 per night. This rate is supposed to include wifi internet access.

While the lodge looks nice from the outside - with a pretty garden area and small pool - upon closer inspection, the lodge is dirty, old and rundown. The price far exceeds the value and services offered.

I have had ants in my bed for 3 nights in a row (even though they came yesterday, removed and replaces all the sheets, sprayed the entire room and cleaned it again), the light bulbs in my bathroom have been out since I arrived (even though I have asked 3 times to have them fixed), the internet does not work (even though the "technician" tried to fix our laptops), and the DSTV has been down for a day.

Worst of all, the lodge appears to be a local hangout spot and is incredibly loud at all hours of the night. There is a small bar near the pool where many men hang out and drink until very late. They are blasting music and hosting dance parties all night. It's extremely stressful and very disturbing.

The only positive about this lodge is its location. It is right down the road from the Manda Hill Shopping Mall so we can walk to dinner and access the WORKING internet at the internet cafe. Also, the guard is nice and helps us negotiate good taxi fares.

I would never stay here again - spending $188 per night to stay at one of the Protea hotels would be worth it. We would do that but all the Proteas are booked due to a major conference in town this week. In fact, we tried to move our first day here but could not find another available room in town. So, we are stuck here for 3 more nights.
