I stayed here in Aug 2010, during the rainy season - when it pours in Freetown, it pours like it will wash away the town. So better to stay here, since this place is well equipped for a torrential rain - you can atleast sit in the terrace and use the flaky and near-dialup speed internet connection.
Country Lodge is about 5 minutes up a hill, off the main road. I would take a taxi or a motorbike-taxi to/from work. You can also walk down the path down to the main road. The President House is just off the road in the middle and the place seemed quite safe, for the 1 month I stayed here.
It's clean, has eatable food (the best food is at Mamba Point, about 5 minutes' drive from here - I would eat lunch/dinner there as often as possible), and quite good furnishings - the linen and bedding was cleaned every day, the washroom had hot/cold running water.
There is a covered terrace where you can go have breakfast or lunch and dinner. So you are not confined to your room, There is also a small swimming pool, with clean water and a view of the ocean which is quite possibly the best in town.
There is also a tennis court just by the edge of the cliff and playing there is an experience. The gym is adequate as well.
Again, keep in mind this is Sierra Leone and the facilities won't match a top class hotel so keep your expectations real and you might just enjoy it.
