“Central location, safe neighborhood, wonderful staff”

Stayed in Hotel Farid for the first few nights and for the last night during my first trip to Dakar. It was a wonderful introduction to the city. I particularly enjoyed the central location, especially being a first-timer in the city. The staff was excellent, helping me with not only hotel related issues but other questions as well. The rooms are simple but very comfortable, with lots of hot water and air-conditioning. In the vicinity, many restaurants are available, including local and international. Try Keur Ndiaye (just around the corner) or La Gallette. The Lebanese restaurant next to the hotel is also great. One tip for the travelers, especially if your taxi driver doesn't find the way to the hotel, always ask for Ali Baba restaurant (in Plateau), that's a well-known spot and Hotel Farid is a few blocks away from there. Overall, great place, I highly recommend it.

“Farid Hotel is ok, but is over priced !”

The Farid Hotel is OK, but it is overpriced.
I paid about 28,000 CFA per night for 2 nights.
This is about 42 Euro ( £38 ) per night.
The room was very darkly lit, very sparsely furnished with no wardrobe.
Also the air conditioning was weak.

I later switched over to the Barakha Hotel, very close by.
The cost here was 25,000 CFA per night.
This is about 37.5 Euro ( £34 ) per night
There was no comparison regarding the quality of the room !
You can also try the Miramar hotel, which again is far better value for money.

“Very decent place to stay, right in the city center”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 October 2010

At a few minutes walk from "Place de l'Indépendance", and 10min walk from the Goree Island terminal, this small but decent hotel welcomes you at the very center of the Plateau neighbourhood. Clean rooms and bathrooms, treated against ants, air cond. and a small tv. Don't expect much from the "business center", though. Service ok, (the receptionist and guard were funny).

You can take a good continental breakfast in the restaurant from the same owner just across the street.

“Great location and service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 October 2009

Though the outside may be humble, hotel Farid is a great pick. It is within walking distance to almost everything and the staff is extremely helpful and honest. The restaurant next door had tasty food and was really convenient. The rooms are super basic but immaculate. There is 24/7 free access to the Internet, which saved us a ton in time and money, and Barry, the hotel's concierge, was helpful in getting us the best rates for trips outside the city and taxis. Dakar can get to be a bit much, but if you stay here, you can always pay the day rate at the plush resorts around town on days you need to unwind.

“Good, clean hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 August 2009

This is a very decent hotel. The room was clean and, surprisingly, the shower had abundant hot water,

The hotel restaurant is supposedly Lebanese, but it serves a bit of everything, from fajitas to cheeseburgers. It is a bit on the pricey side, and there are better restaurants for the money, apart from a very good place that serves traditional food just around the corner called Keur N'Deye. But it may be a good choice for the first night, or if you are too tired to walk sometime.

The hotel has an internet-connected computer in the first floor, free to use. For some reason, this is not announced anywhere.

They offer a transfer service from airport to hotel at 10.000 CFA. You don't really need this service; one can just take a taxi outside the airport and it will take you there for some 3.000-4.000 CFA. Be sure to fix the price with the driver beforehand, though.
