“First choice for Abuja”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 January 2012

Transcorp Hilton is like a mini city. There are over 50 people in the lobby any given time. If you're the kind who likes to not leave the hotel unless absolute necessary, Transcorp Hilton offers everything under its roof. Excellent rooms, choice of restaurants, bars, its own night club and decent shopping. Business centre is quite good though internet in the room is not complementary. It has a nice pool side bar to spend evenings shooting breeze. The travel desk and concierge services are quite good and so is front desk and house keeping. It is definitely a hotel that lives upto the Hilton name.

“The only place you want to stay in Abuja”

I travelled to Abuja on business in May. The Transorp Hilton is truly a great lnternational location. I was spoiled by the service and pleased to have a designated security team to keep me safe. The food in the resturaunt not only included European and Western fare but ample local dishes such as traditional "Foo Foo."

“Nice Hotel but need improvements”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 December 2011

I stayed for 4 nights on business at this hotel and was quite impressed but the more time I spent at the hotel the more faults I found. Check in was delayed due to staff shortage at the desk but was welcomed politely and upgraded rooms as a Gold HH member. The executive lounge is nice but not much n offer other than drinks and nuts, crisps etc. The room was nice but could do with some modernising. The lobby bar is a nice place for a drink and a small casino down stairs for a bit of fun. Now onto the bad parts, the security are in place at the entrance to the hotel but people just walk through without being checked, even if the alarm goes off! I find this worrying especially during the current threat level in Abuja. The second bad point I found was beggars inside the hotel, I was approached on two separate occasions by someone trying to beg money from me when I am enjoying a drink at the lobby bar. From what I can see the hotel are not interested in improving as they know that most foreigners will stay at this hotel no matter what the service due to the location and trusted brand. All in all a disappointment.

“One of the few options”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 December 2011

while you are in Nigeria.. you really dont have many options for hospitality and entertainment.
Abuja is much more better from Lagos but still you have few decent options. one of them is the Hilton.

The Hilton is one of the few 5 starts hotels.
Service is not bad.. yes things takes more time that you ever plan.. so planning is not an option as well. Rooms are clean and tidy, I can say that food as well is really nice and tasty. I recommend the grill by the pool in the after noon for late lunch or dinner.

Its over priced as almost every things there but other options will be the same.

“Why must check in be such a nightmare?”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 December 2011

I stayed for 6 days on a business trip. Check in was by far the worst part of the stay. It took 35 minutes for my colleague who arrived with me; 45 minutes for me - I had the privilege of checking in via the special Hilton Honors program desk. Just to be clear, there was no crowd checking in. Staff take 15 - 20 minutes to check each person in. Check-in staff give no signs of having any information from your booking available to them when they start checking you in. Each person's check in process appears to involve 1-3 phone calls. It is a mystery who they are calling.
When I gave my membership# (the second time),the check in person noted that I was entitled to a bottle of wine upon arrival. "We'll send it right up". I mentioned that I don't drink alcohol. "Okay, we'll send some water" (NB: this is quite valuable as they provide no free water bottles in the room - and a large bottle of water costs $10 bucks). Neither the unwanted wine, or the much desired water ever arrived.
Evidently this is the best hotel in Abuja, and they use their power as the monopolist at the top of the market to charge exorbitant prices for absolutely everything. My colleague said it best: you don't mind paying $3 bucks for peanuts when you fly econo-air on a $50 ticket. But, you mind like hell when you pay for a first class ticket.

The good:
beds are comfortable
walls and windows are reasonably thick - you have a good shot of a decent night's sleep
security is tight
decent hair dryer - women will appreciate being able to blow dry their hair properly
rooms are reasonably sized

The bad:
check in!
the aforementioned charges
internet access - the connection in the rooms is wired only (and, no surprise, the fees are high). There is wifi in the piano bar and some of the restaurants, but they charge $20 per hour and that is on top of the fee you are paying to use the wired connection in your room.

All in all, I recommend staying here, as there is no other option at this level. I hope that another decent hotel chain will make an investment in Abuja and get this hotel to "up its game."

It is regrettable that you experienced delay during check-in and I apologise for all inconveniences we must have caused you. Our desire is to create a pleasant and seamless check-in experience for our guests at all times.

Please be assured of my best efforts to address the issues you have raised with my team with a view to creating a pleasant check-in experience for every guest.

Your comments on internet access are noted. We are currently working with our service providers on the possibility of extending Wi-Fi access to the guest rooms. I am positive that our guests will enjoy Wi-Fi access in the comfort of their bedrooms very soon.

I am pleased though that you enjoyed the comfort of our bedrooms as they were recently upgraded with new signature Hilton Serenity Dreams beds and mattresses.

Once again, thank you for your views and I look forward to welcoming you back to the Transcorp Hilton on your next trip to Abuja.
