“peaceful and helpful place to stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 February 2012

We spent two separate nights here as arranged by our safari company, in between seeing the countryside. The staff is courteous and helpful, the beds and rooms are comfortable and well stocked with amenities (robes toiletries, minibar, TV, table), there is free wifi and computers are available, and the food is very good (though not inexpensive). There is a shuttle to anywhere you want to go, though there is a small charge.
The only cautions are, first, some (if not all) of the rooms lack privacy, since it is a motel-like design, and this may be a problem when the place is full or full of noisy guests.
Second, our massive stone-clad bathroom (assuming all rooms have this) was unsuitable for anyone who is older, even slightly disabled, or just too small to reach things.

Room Tip: Check out the rooms for privacy and quiet.

“Nice place to stay for one night at the start of our Namibian adventure”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 February 2012

The Olive Grove is a cute hotel just on the outskirts of Namibia. We arrived in the late afternoon after 36 hours of travelling - so we were delighted with a warm welcome, a bright spacious room and a comfortable large bed. Interesting decor throughout the hotel - contempoary and unfussy - quite moroccan in style which was suprising, but lovely nonethless.
We enquired about dining at the restaurant - however we would have been one of a handful of diners that evening so we decided to give it a miss and headed out to eat to somewhere a bit livlier.
We had a good nights sleep - however the layout of the hotel meant that it could be quite noisy (sounds traveling up from reception and dining room at breakfast) - if you are a light sleeper we suggest bringing earplugs.
We were served a lovely breakfast in the morning.
All in all a nice (if not hugely memorable) place to speand a night if you have a stopover in Windhoek at the start/end of your trip.

“This could be a great Place to stay”

Olive Grove is a very small place located in a very quiet part of town not far from some good restaurants. On arrival we where welcomed by the team with a very nice smile and a warm hand shake. It felt very good as the team came towards the car and not waited inside the property for us to come to them. Check in was very quick and the staff helped us with the luggage to the room. The room was just of the main dining area on the ground floor. The room offered lots of space with a large bathroom attached. The staff was very friendly and helpful all the time. It felt very good sitting under the Acacia Tree enjoying the first Tafel Beer under the African Sky. Unfortunately I felt that the hotel was not as clean as it should have been. This was the same with the Buffet during Breakfast. That is not a great start for the day. One of the family had a child that was screaming all the time but no effort was made to speak to the guest to try and calm the child down so we all had to suffer.

Room Tip: Get a room on the first floor.

“Faultless service, disappointing accommodation”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 January 2012

First place we stayed at in Namibia. We arrived on a late night flight missing one suitcase and were picked up at the airport by a driver from the Olive Grove. We had arranged this in advance having heard (accurately as it transpired) that the taxi system in Windhoek is amateurish, not very well regulated and unsafe. The Olive Grove is surrounded by a high wall and fencing with video security at the entrance gate. The staff checked us in efficiently and helped us to our upper level executive suite. A power failure meant that we used candles provided in the room (and our torches) to unpack and settle in. Being a hot night, the windows had been left open and not having any mesh screening, unfortunately, all kinds of insects, including mosquitoes, had invaded the room and were creeping about everywhere including the bed covers. This was quite an unpleasant shock! We sprayed the room and our persons with the Bushman insect repellents we had brought with us. After breakfast, first thing in the morning we arranged for the lodge driver to take us to a local supermarket and purchased a plug-in insecticide vaporiser. Breakfast, by the way, was excellent and served by unobtrusive and attentive staff: fresh fruit (the papaya was especially delicious), yogurt and bread baked on the premises. My husband enjoyed the hot cooked breakfast. The reception staff were fantastic in calling the airport and airline (Comair) to track down the missing luggage and they arranged for the airline to deliver it to our next destination, Otjiwarongo. We cannot fault the service at the Olive Grove. Please be aware however that the accommodation is not as pristine and sleek as depicted in the website images. Also it is not as luxurious as represented in the description.

Room Tip: Ask if the room has insect screens on the windows before booking.

“A PERFECT END TO A FANTASTIC HOLIDAY IN NAMIBIA”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 January 2012

Thanks to the staff at Olive Grove for a fantastic last night in Namibia. After more than a week on the road we loved the luxury and just being spoiled. The big bath with its copper detail and the beautiful Moroccan inspired bathroom were highlights- also the little balcony outside our room where we had a nightcap. We were delighted to have the luxury suite - great attention to detail -elegant yet personal. Thanks to all for making our stay really special. Thanks also to Roger the proprietor for the wine suggestions at dinner, nothing like great wine and good food at the end of a lovely holiday. Highly recommend Olive Grove. We will definitely be back. Great host and absolute value for money.
