There aren't too many recent reviews for the Klein Windhoek, and this really says a lot. I get the feeling that the place was perhaps run by other owners and/or managers when the better reviews were written. Quite frankly, this place was absolutely awful. Again, our not too reliable Tour Company booked us in here, promising that it would be compensation for our other unhappy Windhoek experience, but alas! More of the same.
The Klein Windhoek is a row of houses in pretty much it's own street, as the owner buys them up to create this little enclave. It looks like a holiday camp, with rows of little chalets. Ours was decorated from head to toe in a nightmare of very dark brown and beige, with swirls of non descript cream colour just to liven things up. The furniture was dark brown, the dark brown carpets were stained, and the overall effect was just grim.
The tap did not fully reach the sink in the bathroom, and the shower water did not drain away, leaving you ankle deep in water. Otherwise the water pressure in the shower was fine. I did not like the nylon toilet 'apron' around the front of the toilet bowl - it was beige, of course. Yuk.
The beds did not look especially inviting (beige sheets again), and I had the impression that they were clean, but only just. Not fresh. Our son's bed had a gulley down the middle, so it looked like he was going to sleep in a stretcher. Perhaps it's time to buy some new mattresses? The air conditioning did not work, but the staff came to fix it, and then it did sort of work, but not very effectively.
The two pools are small and when we arrived, they were covered with leaves and grime. In the morning, they were being tidied up and did look much better, but they were still hardly inviting. We went for an early breakfast, and found the hot food container full of neatly cut squares of bacon with white fat all over them, and curled up eggs. Otherwise, it was below standard B+B breakfast, and we made do with toast.
The staff were friendly and helpful, but otherwise, the Klein Windhoek is just plain awful. The best thing is the location to Joe's restaurant, and checking out. Avoid it like the plague.
