“Satisfactory overall”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 June 2009

Welcomed on first entering and given a 'welcome drink'. Service and staff pleasant, although the newish 'coffee bar' in the lobby wasn't often manned. Lift worked impeccably during our stay.
Rooms were satisfactory - we had a total of 3 different rooms due to the organisation of the tour, and all beds were comfortable and of a good size. The bathrooms, on the other hand were small. Clean, but one was so small you had to squeeze sideways under the washbasin to sit on the loo! Perfect if you had an upset tummy - if you get my drift!
Showers weak and shower curtains didn't reach the sides of the shower trays - hence bathroom floors always wet after showering - take care with slipperiness.
Aircon worked fine although some of the group had problems in their rooms.
Breakfast is served up on the 6th floor and was just satisfactory; some days the bread and croissants seemed 'yesterdays', the coffee was sachets of Nescafe with hot water, and food choices were limited.
Walking down to Green Square took about 15 - 17 minutes, so location was also satisfactory.

“Yosser has very much improved”

I would not be surprised if the hotel has followed the Tripadvisor advice on how to improve your ratings: command of basic English at reception, a brand new lift, cleanliness, and perfectly acceptable restaurant. In short: a great combination of excellent service and wonderfully friendly staff.True, some members in our group were more critical .....

  • Liked — Clean, spacious,and excellent beds.
  • Disliked — Our group members concluded that the service quality was on occasion somewhat unstable!

“If it's broke, don't fix it!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 October 2008

Booked by tour company as part of an 11-night stay in Libya - 4 nights at start of tour, 1 night on return from Cyrene and 1 night after return from Ghadames. Without exception, our group was unhappy with this hotel, though enjoying the tour as a whole. On the credit side, the beds were comfortable and we slept well. Also, rooms contained a fridge and safe, which were very welcome. Of the 3 rooms in which my wife and I stayed at various times, 2 were reasonably clean - the third was not. However, bathrooms had an unpleasant smell, toilets needed bleaching and shower curtains were too short. Most problems arose from the fact that if anything didn't work or was damaged it didn't get repaired, from the sinks with no plugs, through the bathroom floor soaked by a leaking sink to the TV which didn't work. Breakfasts were poor, even allowing for the fact that it was still Ramadan during the first few days of our stay. Bread rolls were stale and there was little else available. We were unable to get much help from the desk staff who spoke no English - O.K., I don't speak Arabic either but I don't work in an hotel catering for international tourists. Altogether, just not acceptable.

  • Liked — Comfortable beds
  • Disliked — Nothing ever got repaired

“the lift wasn't operational but friendly staff”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 July 2008

We went as part of a large tour and the tour company did all the reservations. Apparently not the best idea to book the really upmarket hotels because if the Colonel decides to book it, everyone else gets chucked out so hence the Yosser. Not the greatest hotel. The lift wasn't operational and their very portly porter had the unfortunate task of lugging 25+ suitcases up a whole bunch of stairs. I thought he would have a heart attack but he was giving his all.

The rooms are alright, pretty much what you'd expect from mid-range. Not in the best condition but clean and neat. There was a lot of construction going on all around the hotel which meant you really couldn't leave your curtains open because you'd be looking straight at a bunch of construction workers.

The breakfast was really very poor. Some boiled eggs, lots of white only bread (trying to ask for wholewheat or rye bread was an absolute lost cause), jams, cereal and the local yoghurts which seemed to be more like pudding than yoghurt. Nothing much else.

Nevertheless, anywhere in Libya, you'll find the friendliest people who try very hard to please you even if they hardly ever understand what you're saying. If you go, learn some basic Arabic. The hotel staff were no different and were friendly and helpful as far as communication would allow.

  • Liked — friendly Libyans
  • Disliked — terrible breakfast options and lift not working

“Friendly, welcoming mid-budget hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 November 2007

I stayed in this hotel in early November for three nights, as part of a group tour to Tripoli. I found the rooms to be clean and well equipped. The bathrooms have a step in bath and shower set-up, which is fine. Be carefull as the water is scalding! My rooms had air-conditioning and overall I felt it was good value. I would return again. We stayed on a bed and breakfast basis and the food was fine. Continental breakfast buffet style.
The staff were polite and helpfull...especially the lovely Egyptian waiter from Cairo, who made us wonderfull Cappucinos' at all hours of the day or night, without compaint!

  • Liked — friendly service
  • Disliked — the lift...very small and claustrophibic!
