“Great place to stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 November 2010

We have tried many hotels in Addis over the years and really enjoyed our stay at the Queen of Sheba this month and will return there. The room are spacious, clean and quiet; food is good and service is very good. The rates are a bit steep for foreigners but this trend is happening all over Ethiopia - a rate for locals and a rate for the rest of us. At least at the Queen of Sheba what you get is decent value for your money. Much better than the Ghion etc for value

“Value for money”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 March 2010

I am a frequent traveller to Addis Ababa. I have stayed and stay at the Queen of Sheba Hotel many many times. My last visit was in March 2010. I can recommend this hotel to any visitors of Ethiopia without any hesitation.

The rooms are very good and large with all the facilities even to cook of your own if necessary. The staff are very good and helpful. You have the inet facilities in your own room etc.

“Good Value for Addis”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 November 2009

WE spent a total of 4 nights here, spread over 2 stays. We arrived without a reservation as we refused to stay at the Ghion where we had been booked in for a stay of 16 days. The room we had been assigned at the Ghion was appalling, in an annex which overlooked the car park. It hadn't even been made up! They refused my request for a better room so we took a taxi to the Queen of Sheba, purely because it had a good entry in our guide book.
The Queen is an oasis of calm in a interesting area, jsut within walking distance of the centre.
Rooms are good, although if you don't want a kitchen avoid these, as it impinges on the space. 303 was much better than 301( which had twin beds)
Bathrooms are ok for Addis, but neither shower was good.
Breakfast was almost nonexistant. Sometimes there would be bread left, and some fruit, but one morning there was only one small roll and no butter. Coffee was excellent.
We ate in the restaurant twice. Ok, unmemorable. Each time we were almost the only people there so there was no atmosphere.
There is a free internet connection in the lobby.
There appears to be a standard rate of $109 for a double, and that includes tax and service, so I think it is very good value for money.
I would stay here again if I didn't have the extra money to stop at the Jupitor International, where a double super delux room costs $175 all in and it is in a better area and better hotel.

“a decent stay”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 May 2009

I stayed at the Queen of Sheba for 8 nights.

Pros: the wireless (ask for a room that gets good connection), the staff were always helpful, generally clean. The complimentary pick up at the airport. As a female arriving on a 11pm flight, I was a little worried. But thankfully, QofS has a counter at the airport and they quickly arrange for transportation to the hotel.

Con: the breakfast was pretty dreadful, after trying it once, I never went back. Similarly, the restaurants offerings/room service, is pretty horrible. Not the place for good food. The hotel is a little dated.

The most important thing for me is that my room be clean and my room at the QofS was always clean and comfortable, so for that I was pleased. Especially after a few days up north, returning to QofS felt like returning to luxury :)

“Dated, but OK for Addis”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 March 2008

I stayed here twice in 2008, with mixed feelings. There were some very nice things: free internet PCs, free shuttle to and from the airport (do tip though!), nice staff, easy to change money, big room, good TV, felt safe. There were some inconveniences: getting anywhere takes a 40-60birr taxi or a 30min walk, the included breakfast was quite terrible, the showers in all 3 rooms I tried were barely adequate, they could give a small bottled water given the price, the restaurant is not very good, taxi drivers rarely knew the hotel location. The worst thing was that it still felt very expensive to me, even though it was 1/2 the Hilton and 1/3 the Sheraton cost you probably get 2-3 times as much at either of those locations. Still, it was popular with NGOs and regular travellers and I had the feeling that it really did represent good value for this town. If I went back I might splurge on something more expensive, but if I was watching money I'd head back here. If they try to shunt you on to the 6th floor resist, these are tiny rooms.
