This is without doubt the nicest place overall to stay in Bujumbura. It is slightly overpriced in my opinion, but it can't be easy running such an establishment in a landlocked country experiencing ongoing civil strife.
The location for this hotel is excellent: just outside of Buj, near UN barracks for safety (of concern every so often) and right on Lake Tanganyika. The rooms have not been recently redone and as can especially be seen from the outside, they do need some maintenance inside and out. But the air-con worked well in my room, it was acceptably clean, and sleep quality was good. Staff is fairly well trained and friendly. Armed guards, possibly military, man the perimeter at a discreet distance which is reassuring as well.
The pool is clean and inviting. Meals around the pool are pleasant in the evening; I've never had any GI problems with the food. The restaurant is a bit overpriced, but also pleasant and the quality of food is good. Breakfast buffets include good variety and quality.
The hotel is just a few klicks from the Congolese border (which is sometimes a flash-point) but also from the Ruzizi River, where there is a nature park, and where Gustave the killer Croc appears from time to time.
A pleasant surprise in this part of the world.
