“5 minutes to hell!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 December 2010

I should have known to worry when, despite reconfirming in the morning, the shuttle didn't turn up to collect me at the airport that there were interesting times ahead.

After waiting 45 minutes (the hotel had assured me it would be 5 more minutes a number of times) I finally caught a taxi to the hotel and tried to check in at 13:45. "Check in is at 2pm" I was told - "no exceptions". I figured it was 15 min so what the hell. At 2:40 I finally got a room on the 5th (top) floor.

First thing in the room I switch on the aircon - 35 degree heat was very hot. No cold air of course! I rang reception and was told someone would come in 5 minutes. Half an hour later called and same story. Third time a team of people arrive and work on the aircon. Lots of laughter amongst the team follows before they rip the aircon unit from the wall and leave with it leaving a big hole in the wall. 20 min later back with anew aircon.

Paradise - it works brilliantly for two minutes. They leave and within a minute the unit starts to make an almighty shuddering sound. Another 5 calls and two hours later (and at least 4 promises of 5 minutes) and I decide to go down to confront them.

I wait for the (only) lift - and wait! Finally give up and walk to find a cleaning lady on the 3rd floor with a bucket holding the lift door open!

At reception more promises of 5 minutes... Decide to go for a drink but find bar and lounge closed due to a strike...

This all proceeds much the same for 2 days until I am due to leave. I book a shuttle and they say it will go 5:45 am. So I come down at 5:35 to check out to be told the shuttle left 5 minutes ago. Checks the book, tuts his tongue and says "don't worry - it will be back in half an hour". Given the experience of 5 minutes, half an hour puts the fear of god in me. They make all sorts of promises for the next half hour (during which time they had still not finalized my check out) before I eventually manage to flag down a passing taxi.

Disaster from start to finish - and if I ever hear "5 minutes" again I will need trauma counselling!

“Perfect place and location to stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 August 2010

I always come down to Gaborone, Botswana for Business trip and the location is so perfect for me, 5 min.s walk to my office, even other major Government and business establishments are around this Hotel.

This Hotel is central situated in Mail Mall (so called) and have GYM next door as well, which I never tried. You can go eating and shopping just next to Hotel. SPAR is local super market and offers wide range of packed and fresh fruits and other daily need things. There is KFC and Debonair Pizza as well , hardly 2 min walk from hotel. You won't die of starving for sure. There is also a lounge-bar next door to chill in eve though not very reputed one like Bull N Bush and Fashion Lounge.

As far as stay in Hotel is concern, its OK but little expensive - but when comparing to other Hotels in city its still cheap and worth. They don't give you mini fridge in room, but before check ask for 1, if you are staying long in Botswana. Go for Floor 5 as they give Wirless internet againt floor 3 as you have plug-in LAN cable in that case.

Hotel is clean and over all comparable to Intenational Hotels like Holiday Inn.

Greate place to stay, especially if you are working around the centre of town or near the main mall. The food is delicious and the bar is very lively on Friday and Saturday nights

“Comfortable Stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 April 2010

I have had many stays at this Hotel and will definitely recommend anyone who is visiting Gaborone. This is nice Business Hotel in the main area of Gaborone called Main Mall. Most convenient location for travelling to any location in and around Gaborone. The Hotel staff is warm & cordial, but people are generally slow in every work ( not specifc to the hotel but in general in Botswana). Rooms are decently sized with all the basic amenities.. although my room didn't have a mini bar.
The restaurant has a limited menu but there are many options around the hotel if you need variety. Overall, its all good!

“Lovely and comfortable stay at the President.”

Decided to check out of my pre-booked Hotel in Gaborone because of poor serv ice and took myself off to the President. It is situated in the City Centre; the rooms and facilities are clean and attractive. Definitely no noise at night which is a big plus for me! Dining is good, having a varied menu and presented in a stylish and hygienic manner. The Staff were great - friendly and obliging; giving me information and advice. There were few other europeans here but this made no difference. I felt welcomed and was able to enjoy a really good and interesting three-night experience in Gaborone. I sat on the balcony with my coffee - where "Mma Ramotswe" sat in "The No 1 Ladies' Detective Agtency. Went on a morning and afternoon trip with "Kaia Tours" to Gaborone Game Reserve and around the City Centre. The only niggle was that I found the price quoted a bit steep - but they agreed to a discount when I bargained.

  • Liked — The friendliness and generosity of the staff
  • Disliked — Nothing
