I stayed here in June of 2011 and there were very few other people there at the same time. For Zimbabwe, it was pretty nice and clean. I travelled up on a whim from South Africa and discovered that there are no ATM machines that take MasterCard (everything is Visa), and of course all of my cards at that time were MasterCard. So I had to live on the cash I had in my pocket, about $300 USD. I budgeted very well and went to the local grocery store and bought water, crackers and peanut butter and lived on that for the most park of 3 days.
If you want to see Victoria Falls, this is a great place to stay because you can leave out the back gate and be there after about a 10 minute walk. The usual “vendors” of carved wood and old Zimbabwe currency are there but just tell them you will see them before you leave the hotel and give them a date that is two days after you are actually leaving!
The rooms were sparse. The Internet was intermittent and slow. I am not sure how it would feel if there were more people. I was lucky enough to meet a US couple staying there at the same time and we did a variety of activities together.
The travel arranger at the hotel is a ripoff! They charge a lot more to book stuff for you than what it actually costs. It is about a 50-100 percent mark up from what you would pay if you contact the vendors yourself!
