“Best for Harare, Great Service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

As compared to international standards, the hotel is showing its age. It does have an old world British charm but the rooms do need to be renovated. One of the wings is under renovation, so this should improve shortly.

The food at the hotel was good, service was great nothing to complain about. The lobby is very nice and the roof top bar and pool is a nice touch. The gym doesn't have much equipment and is very small, but at least there is one.

One really nice touch was the built in adapters to the desk so that you could use EU or UK plugs without having to carry a lot of adapters with you.

Wi-Fi is a bit of a pain as you can only login for one device at a time and its a bit pricey. But overall would stay there again for business. The business center is open 24 hours and has secretarial support, printers, and copiers galore.

“Great hotel, decent food and lovely people”

I stayed at the hotel for almost 4-5 months while I was at Harare for work. I had never imagined such a warm reception and such helpful people. The high tea snacks are absolutely recommended. You can also not miss the lovely buffet breakfast spread. At the hotel's restaurant, you should hear the lovely jazz music on Friday's and mind you it is live. The dessert trolley was something I always looked forward to. THe laundry does its job very very well. Would love to visit again.

Room Tip: Take the street facing room.

“Best of the best in Zimbabwe”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 January 2012

I stayed for 3 nights at this magnificent hotel in January 2012. It's definitely the best hotel I have stayed in southern Africa.

Location is central Harare. Ideal to explore the city from the hotel . There is secure free parking for residents. The foyer is well laid out and beautiful. The staff very professional and helpful.

The rooms were spacious and very modern. They had various plug adaptors for most regions of the world unlike south African hotels where you have to buy an adaptor to plug in you accessories.

The views from the rooms overlooking the Harare unit square were breathtaking. I could see the ancient cathedral, the imposing reserve bank building and many more

There is no other place to stay except this hotel. No wonder it's among the leading hotels of the world.

Oh nearly forgot the only minus was the lack of WiFi. For such a hotel you would expect free WiFi but no they sell it . The phone calls from their hotel rooms were more than USD 1,50 per minute. It's better to buy a local cellular line than use the phone

Above all great hotel. Will only stay at this hotel whenever I visit Harare .

“Best in Harare”

i have been staying at the Meikles and other establishments in Harare for years as we are frequent visitors.

the hotel is in the process of refurbishing some of the rooms as they were a bit tired but are now coming up to their past high standard. The restaurants are now full and there are great improvements each time we visit. The staff are professional and friendly.

“Old but Nice …”

The hotel definitely gives you the idea that you stepped 50 years back into time … Everything is old except for the LCD screen ;)

Quite luxurious but old / Quite Expensive

Please note that this was my first trip to Africa so I am quite inexperienced
