It's not right in the center of Tunis, but it's a fantastic hotel. And at TD78 for a deluxe double room (listed rate was TD88) including breakfast, it was very good value.
Upon arriving in Tunis by train for a few days, my fiancee and I checked out the very central Hotel Carlton first, but at TD108 for a small double with breakfast we thought it was a bit pricey. After a 5-minute TD1.5 cab ride to the Belvedere, we were sold. The room is spacious and very comfy, with phone, minibar, and satellite TV. The bathroom is also sizable, very clean, and very nice. Great shower and nice touches all around. There was no noise from inside the hotel, and street noise is minimum. The street isn't too busy and you're well-insulated from the outside.
The front desk staff are very welcoming, and very helpful. They were a big help finding a local laundry where I could get clothes washed by the kg rather than the much more expensive piece-by-piece in the hotel. They were also quick to arrange a reasonably priced taxi to the airport for us in advance. Cleaning staff are great and always seem to have a kind word for you. Restaurant staff are superb. The dinner menu and the food are ok, but the buffet breakfast would rate slightly above average.
The only downside could be the location. We liked being a bit out of the way in a more residential neighborhood, but there are limited eating options within walking distance. There is a pricey but decent Chinese restaurant ("Hong Kong") and a local chain just north of the nearby zoo entrance. Otherwise, there is some good and cheap takeaway food within 5-10 minutes walk on Avenue Libertie, going towards the center/medina. The center of town (Ave Habib Bourgiba) is a 20-30 min walk or a 5-20 min cab ride depending on traffic. It'll be less than TD2. The hotel has wireless and pc internet access for a charge, but there are much cheaper internet cafes within short walking distance. I spotted four within 10 mins walk.
In short, great find if you're willing to be less central (though it is actually closer to the airport). We would gladly stay here again.
