The hotel is in a very central location that within walking distance for main 5 minutes walk to Train Station, 3 minues walk to Metra Terminal, 7 minutes walk to Medina.

The hotel is quiet and overall clean (despite a bit shabby) and staffs are friendly and helpful. For this price range, it is totally acceptable.

We booked the hotel via email before our trip and were fortunate enough to speak a little French, which made the process far easier.

On arrival, which was quite late at night, the youngest of the staff came out and helped us with our bags and even negotiated down our taxi fare from the airport. We were shown to our room, which was very basic, but spotlessly clean with clean linen and a substantial bathroom. There was abundant hot water and the bed, though quite old, was comfortable.

In the morning we woke up to discover that my partner had been bitten quite a few times by mosquitoes, so we should have kept the windows closed and paid the supplement (4 Dinars) for the use of the air conditioning. We did this later in the trip and slept far better - without mosquito attacks!

Breakfast was adequate. Really strong, French-style coffee in plentiful amounts with a baguette and some butter and jam (the fig jam is delicious).

The staff were always friendly, offering personal hotel recommendations, assisting us with onward accomodation in the West of the country and just generally being kind and courteous wherever possible.

The location is pretty much ideal for whatever you want to do in the city: 5 mins walk to the cathedral and train/metro stations, 10 minutes to the medina and 15 minutes to the tramway out to La Goulette/Marsa.

It's really not the Ritz, but it doesn't claim to be and as a hotel that is in the lowest tier of prices in Tunis, I think it offers great value. I would happily go back!

The reservation process for the hotel was good, with staff fairly fluent in English. The rooms were cheap but still a little overpriced for what you get. The rooms were rundown but clean, except for the floors. The best feature of the room was a good bathtub with a shower wand, but the window screen had a hole in it, allowing in plenty of mosquitos. The bathroom overlooked a small interior courtyard, but the room overlooked a dark alley. The breakfast is a copious amount of cheap baguettes and coffee, and we found it hard to communicate that we wanted just coffee or tea, with a main breakfast elsewhere. This was easy to find, for the hotel is just off the main avenue in the very center of town. The metro station is fairly close, as are numerous restaurants and patisseries. The Medina and the Monoprix are a few blocks to the left on Rue d'Yougouslavie.

I reserved a room with bathroom for one person via the website, and doubled-checked with the reservation twice beforehand to make sure it was fine. They assured me - by e-mail - it was. Naturally, when it came to checking in, it wasn't even there.

Nevermind, it was low season and I easily got a twin-room with a sink (22 dinar), and was promised I would get an en-suite the next morning. In the end, I left 12 hours later and moved to another hotel because I didn't really like the Salammbo. The room in my window wouldn't shut properly, and I ended up spending the night being bitten by a dozen mosquitoes. I kept on killing the little buggers throughout the night, only for it to be a never-ending exercise. I also saw a tiny little cockroach in my room. The communal shower (2 Dinar extra - pay upon check-out) was pretty good, but its door was locked in the morning which I thought was a bit strange (just ask the porter to unlock it). I guess the last reason for moving out was that I didn't fancy lugging my baggage up three flights of stairs.

Location is pretty damn good though. There's no in-room TV or internet at the hotel, and the breakfast was terrible.
