“Quiet hotel in a safe neighbourhood”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

Quiet hotel in a safe neighbourhood.
Good restaurant options nearby. Fantastic buffet breakfast.
Reasonably good facilities - lots of space to sit in the lobby/bar area, wireless is unreliable, so bring your own cable.
Reasonably good location for business - you need to take a taxi everywhere, but these are reasonably priced (make sure the driver uses the meter, and the fair should be less than 5 dinars to get downtown).
Most staff have advanced or proficient English.

“Trying to be World Class Western Standard”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2012

I was staying here 30 days in total.
The Hotel is situated on the Lake of Tunis which offers a great view.
My room was facing the lake and was clean. Even though I request a non smoking section all the rooms offer an ashtray.
This has something to do with the Arabic culture were you still have a lot of smokers in closed rooms.
The room was very spacious and has been kept clean. No issues with towels missing or similar.
Some of the bathroom appliances are cracked or broken but still work. For a 5 Star Hotel this would not be acceptable.
Breakfast, lunch and dinner were good but not very good. Again the hotel is trying to give a world class impression but fails on small details such as some order miss matches or steak to be "well done" bit delivered almost raw in the middle.
The spa, swimming pool area are beautifully designed.

The air condition seemed not to work properly but I didn't mind since it was January and unusual cold.
The hotel is situated only minutes away from the airport which is great for short business trips but if you stay for longer or with family the area of the hotel offers little for sight seeing or market places. But taxis are plenty and cheap. A single trip to Tunis center or Sidi Bou Said should not cost more the 5 TD.

Overall the hotel is doing remarkable well considering the political and economical situation of Tunisia and therefore minor glitches can be forgiven.

Biggest letdown:
I had a Tunisian female friend invited to my room to go over some work and she had been asked to almost immediately by hotel stuff to leave my room and we could only meet in the lobby. Upon inquiring as to why the hotel stuff told us that if she would be any other nationality then Tunisian there would have been no issue.
I am paying guest in this hotel for 4 weeks and it should be up to me who I can invite to do work in my room, specially since the lobby is not suited for this.

Although I am a guest in the country and the hotel this action was beyond my comprehension and left a very sour and unsatisfying taste in a otherwise lovely stay.

Room Tip: Try to get a room with view onto the lake. Specially located above the kitchen you get a cooking sme...

“O.k. - but not 5 star and some room for improvement.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 January 2012

Stayed there for 2 nights on business trip. The hotel is o.k. if you have to visit companies in the lake area. Check in was friendly and efficient, same for check out. I got a complimentary upgrade to lake view room (standard rooms have "city view").
The rooms are spacious, but nothing special: Clean, but the maintenance needs some improvement: Defect bulbs, loose lamps, curtains, etc.
Contrary to older photos, the TV screen size has been improved significantly.
Breakfast is o.k., the menu for dinner rather short with not so many choices. Despite there is a nice lobby bar area, there are no alcoholic drinks served in the hotel. Same may apply to the few restaurants in the area around.
The small pool and sauna were clean and not crowded. The free wireless LAN was - except about half an hour in the evening - not usable (slow, disconnecting all the time).
Overall, it is not a five star hotel but o.k. for a short business trip.

Room Tip: Try to avoid standard rooms, facing to the narrow street. Rooms ending with X28, X30, X32 are quite...

“Older hotel, but well maintained.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 January 2012

The hotel is also commonly referred to as the Concorde.
I would classify the hotel as a business hotel, and in that category, it rates quite highly.
Coffee lounge and main restaurant and very nice views of the lake, and there are outside coffee and dining areas. Breakfast was excellent (particularly compared to Sofitel, Rabat where I just came from).
The rooms are a little on the small side but quite livable and the bathroom had been refurbished recently and the quality of the work and the fittings was very good..
The staff are generaly friendly and efficient.
Hmmm, I just noticed that this is the first time that I have given 4 star ratings to all categories!

Room Tip: Ask for a room with unobstructed lake views

“Perfect and calm place to stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 December 2011

Excellent hôtel ! The rooms are nice and big. The swimming pool and spa is a unique experience. Take a verbena infusion (at no cost) and just relax or swim. The staff is very efficient and friendly, notably the swimming pool/spa staff. The breakfast was a slight disappointment and....overprized. There are quite a few places at walking distance where a nice coffee and croissant are served at "local" price. The hotel is very close to the airport (5 minutes, 3 TD) and to a number of embassies, inclusive the EU Delegation. For the typical local atmosphere, one has however to go to the areas such as La Goulette or straight to the Médina (15 minutes outside the traffic jam hours).
