“Good stay, but would prefer the image we had from the website, overpriced.”

The hotel is really the best in touzer. But it is not what you expect after seeing the beautiful website. The architecture is great, but the facilities are poor: frigobar doesnt work, the food is poor! The service almost doesnt exist. Only one person to serve such a big hotel hosting several big groups at once. We tried to call reception few times but no one responded.
If you come to Tozeur you should stay there but just dont bring high expectations. And dont forget that they charge per day and PER person, not per room!

“Excellent hotel!”

We spent a night at the Dar Cherait in November (prior to our Sahara excursion) and we had a great time here
Starting with our *very early* check in (we took the overnight train from Tunis and arrived to Tozeur at 6am in the morning), to a relaxing tea on the pool side and a walk through the gardens to a hearty dinner, everything was great.
But the early checkin was probably the most amazing thing. The heating system on our train was not working, so by the time we got to Tozeur I was freezing, tired and quite frankly asking myself what were we going to do so early in Tozeur. The moment we got to the hotel, we did a quick check in and the receptionist handed us our key (we could definitively have asked us for an extra night and we would probably have accepted it!). That's what I call great service! We slept until 10 am and we were ready to continue our discovery of this wonderful country.

“Beautiful - i highly reccomend this hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 September 2010

Firstly I must say that a special rate was given to us because we stayed at the hotel the last days of August, so in full Ramadan. During this period very few other rooms were occupied by other guests. The two ladies at the reception were the only members of the staff that did not satisfy us completely, giving us a strange feeling we couldn’t completely trust them (I think one of them tried pocketing some extras when organizing excursions for us). All other staff were fantastic though. Always friendly and smiling, something we soon discovered was hard to find in other Tunisian hotels. A rich breakfast was served promptly with a smile at a little table set outside, under a romantic tree. The hotel palace was simply magnificent, a dream. Thanks to the trees and gardens that surround the palace, the pool area enjoys the privacy you expect from a 5 star hotel: other guests from their rooms do not look onto the pool. The room was furnished with not very special or new furniture, but it was spacious, comfortable and clean. The ideal location for honeymooners or people that wish to spend a few relaxing days going on a desert excursion during the morning and simply enjoying the hotel’s pool in the afternoon before having a nice dinner at the hotel (double the price of restaurants out of the hotel, but if you are accustomed to European prices, still a good deal). I would certainly recommend this hotel.

“A lot of atmosphere but not quite comfortable enough to warrant an extended stay”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 July 2010

This is a charming property. Architecturally, the property is attractive and has a very Tunisian feel to it. The public spaces are decorated in a lavish traditional style -- domed ceiling, wood carvings, lamps, oil paintings and heavy fabrics. The interior offers great photo opportunities. The pool and spa are also attractive and the poolside has very comfortable canopied day beds which are a nice place to escape the heat.

This is definitely a nice place to stay for a unique experience that feels Tunisian; however, we didn't find it to be a good place for an extended stay and actually checked out a day early.

Key reasons were:

- beds were uncomfortable. Blankets were itchy and the mattresses were hard. This is definitely not the kind of place where you want to sleep in
- public spaces were not well air conditioned and were quite hot (note: we were there in July). This made it hard to enjoy the indoor spaces as it was actually cooler outside
- the property is for the most part attractive but has a lot of tacky statuary which cheapens the atmosphere
- a bit pricey. For a similar price, it is possible to have a much more comfortable experience elsewhere

Free wi-fi is available in the main lobby. It was slow but functional (I could even use Skype). Electrical outlets were limited and not all of them worked. We were unable to consistently charge more than 1 device at a time in our room.

Breakfast is a fairly generous Continental but hot items were not available.

“a dream”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 April 2010

We haven't spend the night here since we found a lovely place closer to the city that is not in the zone touristique (Residence L'Oued) but we did have dinner here. It was like a dream. The whole building, the staff, the garden, everything is like a tale from 1001 nights. The food was good and not overpriced.
The hotel guests enjoyed a buffet dinner what seemed better than the usual buffets but since we were not hotel guests we ate a la carte.

The whole atmosphere is what a Tunisian palace should have been like and it was fun for an evening out.
