“Outstanding”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 July 2011

We've been to Klein's on four occasions and find it to be one of the best safari camps in the Serengeti.

First of all, this camp sits on a private reserve so you have the wildlife to yourself, without a crowd of vehicles trying to get ever closer to a wildlife sighting. The vehicles are open so everyone enjoys a great view and they can go off road to get closer to wildlife. AND... the vehicles can go into the Seregeti National Reserve if that's where the action is.

Secondly, the camp, perched high on a hillside offers magnificent views over the reserve. We have watched elephant, buffalo, giraffe and more just sitting on the deck of our cottages.

Next, the camp itself is superb. Great spacious cottages, a magnificent bar overlooking the valley, swimming pool and more. This camp has always been well managed and this trip was no different.

There's an interesting bonus: Interesting Maasai villages are situated about 45 minutes from the camp. Unlike villages that receive several visits each day, these villages are visted just occasinally but guests at Kleins so there is always a warm connection with the Maasai.

My only concern is that the road up to the camp is rough and rocky -- it's a road you have to travel on each game drive. Fortunately the reception when you arrive is warm and genuine.

We'll be back

Room Tip: All the rooms are superb; the only significant difference is the distance from the main lodge.

“Loved it, and had the best time of our whole trip at Klein's!”

Klein's Camp was the last in our trip to Tanzania, and it was everything we'd expected it to be. Luxurious, great views, excellent and friend staff but most of all, the gamedriving was beyond expectation! Our guide and tracker were fantastic at their job, but most of all very friendly and warm. Our kids had a great time with them! I wouldn't call Klein's a family destination (more a couple's or honeymooning destination) but we were made very welcome.

“Very nice, but not as nice as other &Beyond lodges”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 July 2011

We stayed at Klein's Camp for two nights in June 2011. The lodge is located on a private concession right outside the Western part of the Serengeti. The position allows day game drives in the Serengeti and night game drives plus off road drives in the private concession. The lodge is very nice, totally deserves 5 stars - it was just our least favorite compared to the other & Beyond lodges we stayed at. The views from the bar and lodges are great at sunset. The service was great as usual for Beyond and we had two days of great game driving.

“Made for a magical honeymoon”

There is something special about this place, and its not just that we got so close to the animals and had a safari experience beyond anything we had imagined. The service here is the best we've experienced anywhere. Somehow the staff seemed to proactively consider our every need, and it all just happened around us effortlessly. There was complete flexibility about what we wanted to do, which animals we wanted to track, and when we wanted to do it. There is an abundance of wildlife - everyday we spent time observing from as close a distance as possible, herds of elephants, giraffes, lions, monkeys, babboon, buffalo, etc. Our guide also made some excellent suggestions such as going to visit the community school that Kleins supports. The trip to a Masai Village was also enjoyable - it's not commercial in any way, and we felt very welcomed.

We enjoyed the pan african cuisine - the chefs puts thought and innovation into each course, and executes them well. We also stayed at the Ngorongoro Crater Lodge, and comparitively the food at Kleins was so much better.

“Amazing safari experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 December 2010

Klein’s Camp is the ultimate safari experience. It was my first safari ever, so I didn’t know what to expect. It turned out to be just perfect; Klein’s was the best introduction to safari possible! This year we were very lucky, the migration was passing right by the camp, we were watching it from our terraces. Klein’s is in a private concession, this means there are no one else in that territory, there is no noise, there no vehicles other than Klein’s. The camp consists of 10 houses for the guests and a bar and a restaurant area. All buildings are blending with the environment, there is no fence and animals are fee to wonder around the camp. After dark guests are not allowed to walk on their own for that reason.
Each house is spacious, luxuriously equipped with a walk-in shower, toilet, 2 sinks, a large bed, a wardrobe, a painting set (!!), a gym kit (!!). Each house has a private terrace overlooking the planes. Zebra and wildebeest are in the valley below, one can hear the sounds they make.
Food was excellent: it’s all inclusive, with 24 hour butler service, so you can get your gin and tonic any time you like. There was always a veggie option in the restaurant, time of the meals is also adjusted according to the guests’ preferences.
There is a little shop on the premises, a small swimming pool with lounges. Other than that it’s completely wild.
The laundry is also included, it’s done by hand (I think by the butlers), ready same day if there is no rain. Each house has a solar panel, electricity is supplied by a central generator. Klein’s claims to be very environmental-friendly, and I think I will give them that.
There are 2 game drives per day. Vehicles are open (no side walls), each has blankets and rain coats in case it rains – and it did nearly every day even in the dry season. Trackers are excellent, their English varies, but in general they speak very well, know all the animals and birds, tell a lot of interesting facts. Open vehicles allows for amazing views, guests feel very close to the animals.
We saw all animals possible in Klein’s: lions and cheetahs, leopards, monkeys, zebras, ostriches, buffalos, all sorts of antelopes, baboons, giraffes etc etc. Amazing. Klein’s is not in Serengeti – and it’s not a drawback, I’d say it’s an advantage: no vehicles other than Klein’s, complete silence and an unspoilt territory. It is possible to drive to Serengeti from Klein’s, but to be honest – why would you? It is the same ecosystem, animals don’t really care, so shouldn’t the guests.
One of the unique things about Klein’s is a possibility to do a walking safari and to have night drives. We saw a line during our walk – very exciting! During night drives we saw lions hunting – nature at it’s wildest!
Would absolutely recommend Klein’s: it’s a beautiful, well-managed place in a stunning location. Expensive, but worth every penny.
