“Great location, service and rooms c+.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 January 2012

We have stayed here for some years now. We use the palm beach for getting off flights.
The rooms are fine. C-plus let us say. Some are deluxe and some a weeny bit boxlike. When the rooms are good, they smoke all of the 5 star establishments in town. When they are sort of boxlike.

The good thing about this place is that the receptionist is awake and friendly at 0400. That is a bonus. They know about you, you are in , asleep right away-.

The restaurant and bar is open 24 hours a day, and that is excellent. Their staff are also excellent and I have no problem with their service, it is first rate and fast.

The only negative thing about the Palm beach is that overall, its a just a bit average for $120-140 a night. There is nothing special about it. The breakfasts are OK. The aircon does not always work, and changing rooms was a bit slow, the staff are a little bit slow, or don't care. It's a really nice African hotel with the African sense of urgency,

It is fine for me, I just make sure I have a good room, and I am nice to the managers and firm with the morning staff. Then I get what I want. But it is not for everyone.

I will definately return

“Great Location, good service, clean and at a sensible price”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 October 2011

The Palm beach is no where near a beach, but it used to be! It's beside the busy Ali Hassan Mwinyi road, but it has a garden that is strangely quiet. The rooms vary from small but well appointed singles, to large well appointed double/singles. What you get depends upon what is available at the time. Everything is spotless. Internet is free and usually works everywhere.

The Reception staff are helpful, the breakfasts are good, and the dinners are fine. This is not a gourmet experience, like Emmerson Spice Inn in Zanzibar, but it is fine.

I have stayed in alot of places in Dar es Salaam, and this place is absolutely fine. The only thing missing is a pool.

The price at $95-120 is about reasonable. It is a bit more than I like to pay, but compared to the expense of the Southern Sun or Movenpick etc, this place is good enough value.

The best thing is the location, No commutes, it is down town.

Room Tip: Ask for a bigger room if they have one available

“Value for money”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 October 2011

Excellent hotel to stay close to the city centre if one cannot afford to spend a lot more. Clean. Everything you need is in the room: fridge, sockets, free Wifi; kettle, cups, TV. Adequate shower and toilet. Very friendly and helpful staff. Nice bar and restaurant that serves good value for money everyday fare. Garden noisy (traffic) but well visited. Band plays every friday. Just the spot to stay if on a businesstrip to Dar or an overnightstay. Too bad they do not have a swimming pool.

“mosquito-plagued traffic island, faded glory”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 September 2011

No palms, no beach, and not much of a hotel; Dar's traffic and development have screened off any beach atmosphere this place might have had half a century ago, when it looked quite "modern." All that can be said for it is that it is close to town. It's on a busy intersection, so the outdoor shaded bar/restaurant area is barely shielded from the traffic noise and exhaust fumes. The mosquitoes do not seem to mind. If you don't have to be close to the CBD, it's much better to stay out on the peninsula. While we were there, they were renovating (needed), so the reception (which doubles for the casino that was not operating, thankfully) had been displaced to the dining-room and there was rubble everywhere. Altogether, I would not recommend this place and I don't think it offers good value. But, like just about everywhere in Tanzania, the staff was invariably pleasant and helpful, and gave us our 3.15 AM wake-up call to head to the airport. Aircon & mosquito nets (needed), rooms sprayed at night.

“Excellent hotel, friendly staff, great location in Dar Es Salam”

We stay here for three nights and it was great, the rooms were well equiped and clean, palm beach is in a good location and easy access to town centre. There is a casino next door which is great to go to in the evening. The staff were very friendly and responded to every need. I would definately stay here again.
