I recently had the misfortune of staying at this hotel after stupidly making a booking on their website. The main reason I booked was because the hotel offered aircon rooms and had a pleasant looking swimming pool for much less than the other hotels with this facility. As I was due to spend a day in Dar whilst awaiting my late night flight I thought this would be nice.
The hotel was opened 15 years ago and has aged really badly. The interior is all dark woods and the rooms have heavy furniture that is the worse for wear. During my stay the power cuts meant that the hotel was running their generator, unfortunately this was not strong enough to power the aircon so the room was like a sauna with not even a fan to stir the air. To their credit the hotel provided us with an industrial size fan until the power came back on at 9pm.
The swimming pool water was bright green and it wold have been a health hazard to swim in it. At night we heard what sounded like hundreds of frogs (obviously living in the pool).
The hotel ended up refunding half the room rate as the facilities advertised were not available. The hotel staff were really nice, especially one of the girls in the bar and the housekeeper (who washed and ironed some clothes in record time).
