The hotel is situated on the Msasani Peninsula just north of the city centre directly on the ocean front. The beach part in the name is a bit deceiving, as it is not a real beach, rather a little sandbox with 2 parasols at the end of the garden. Arriving at the hotel already gives you a bleak indication of what to expect from the hotel. What looks like the porters / valet desk is in fact the reception desk with absolutely no warm welcoming feel to it whatsoever, and the staff don't make you feel any more welcome either. I had booked the hotel on the Best Western website, but no booking was found when I arrived, and it took a while to find the reservations manager and even longer to finally find my reservation.
The room itself was very nicely done, overlooking the bay and could have been excellent if attention to the smaller details was given. The inroom safe wasn't working and despite attempts by the hotel staff to fix it, it never worked. Neither did the free 'high speed internet' as the signal was so weak it dropped every few seconds.
The restaurant and bar are not bad, but for the price paid for this hotel, one would expect something better. The swimming pool and loungers around it looked worn out, an attempt had been made to paint the pool's rim, unfortunately the paint has run over the edges and gives the whole pool a very tacky look. Not as tacky as the gym, which you have to really look for - a small spiral stairs just off the reception winds down into a dingy basement with some exercise equipment, and on the other side of the lobby, through some doors and dark hallways is the sauna room with (empty) jacuzzi which looks absolutely pathetic, dirty and broken.
This property has real potential, but who ever is in charge of this hotel clearly is not interested in making this a top hotel.
Room Tip: The hotel consists of 2 seperate buildings, would definitely recommend staying in the newer one and...
