“Nice rooms, rooftop bar, and great customer service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

After staying 4 nights at outdated Hilton Nairobi, I was blown away by Holiday Inn. The rooms were nice and comfortable, showers hot with nice pressure. Added plus was a hookah/rooftop bar. The hotel staff was incredibly accommodating: for example, they were able to arrange a transfer for our large group with a minimal notice. The only criticism is that service at breakfast was a bit slow: for example, I had to ask for coffee several times, but I feel like it's part of the culture. Overall, I would highly recommend Holiday Inn to anyone traveling to Dar Es Salaam!

“It did the job”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

Stayed 2 nights with colleagues on a business trip, early Feb 2012.

Standard room was clean & adequate, but although functional, the bathroom decoration/tiling really had been done to a "slap-dash" standard.

Breakfast was nothing special, but adequate. Roof bar was nice, but windy in the evenings. Food can be ordered from restaurant menu to eat at the roof bar.

Complimentary shuttle to/from a nearby (45 mins) beach "resort" - nice white sand beaches, made a break from the city centre. Shuttle was almost 1.5 hrs late on departing hotel, so check on timings/availability.

Dear Guest,
Thank you for staying at Holiday Inn Dar es Salaam.
It is our pleasure to read that you have enjoyed the white beaches at our sister hotel.
We do apologies for the delay of the pick up, but that gave you extra time on the tropical beach.
Regarding the bathroom tiling, we are currently re-tiling the rooms in fases. On your next stay we will arrange that you will have a new bathroom.
Thank you once again for writing this review,
Kind regards,
Ian & Team

“Just OK- Nothing Special”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

Kinda clean, modern chain hotel with nicer rooms. Nothing else to distinguish it. Paid a rate of $160 a night which seemed a little high for such a poor country, although I admit I am not an expert on lodging in Dar.

Pros-

Cleaner, nicer rooms with good water pressure. Firm beds. Nice windowed lobby. No security hassle going in and out.

They gave me a room upgrade and free access to the consierge room and free fast wifi for no special reason. Thanks!

The rooftop bar was very nice with comfy couches and a great big projection TV which shoots onto the wall of the hotel. A must if you are staying here.

Cons-

Boring location- Nothing to see or do in walking distance.

Staff seemed pretty dumb and untrained. English comprehension was very poor for a hotel chain like this and, with the exception of the Indians who no doubt were the managers, the staff could not grasp basic requests without confusion.

Pool is above ground and small.

Food at the rooftop bar and the 1st floor restaurant was pretty poor quality and all service was slooooowwwwwww... eat elsewhere!

Oh, yeah. I noticed a few discreet & modestly dressed working girls at the rooftop bar in the evenings looking for eye contact. Whether this is a pro or a con I suppose is up to you.

“A safe and clean hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

I enjoyed my stay at the Holiday Inn Dar Es Salaam very much. I was greeted with a cool towel upon arrival (much needed after a 40 day backpacking journey). The receptionists checked me in early and also arranged for a late check out, pedicure, and airport transfer at my request.
The restaurant while a bit expensive but had a lovely selection of dishes to choose from. The wifi was very dependable (although did cost about 10USD per day) and the office space upstairs had a variety of shops but most certainly came in handy when it came to printing travel documents and booking flights etc.
Overall, I had a very positive experience at this Holiday Inn. I would recommend it to cap off your stay in Tanzania.

“Good location at a reasonable price”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 February 2012

As previously stated here, the craftsmanship that built the place isn't the best, but the hotel is perfectly functional and I found the room to be adequate and clean. If you pay slightly more for a business room you get use of the business lounge which gives you somewhere to sit and work that is not your room. Well worth the extra few dollars (especially as you will get this back in free tea/coffee etc).

Room Tip: Choose specific business rooms with use of lounge
