El Muniria is Feel nice. It's Located Centre of Tangier. Close to Beach and Centre. If you already find hoter, Location is Very Good. But It's terrible to Find first time. Staff is soso but i couldn't fell bad. It's Okay to stay 2 more days. But El Muniria has Club name of 'Tanger INN' it's open 10pm to 2am It's make crazy noise. Building is Clean but it's old there has cleaning service too. BUT It's very Cheap!! 1 Night per double bed room is a 250 DH! It's Very nice!! Cheap is Best way to travellers!

“Good for a transit one night stop ...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 March 2009

We had come from Marrakesh and planned to travel to Seville - we couldn't do it in one day so made an overnight stop in Tangier. We found this guesthouse through the Lonely Planet Morocco book. It has some "Beat Generation" history but nothing was pointed out to us or anything.

Our room had a nice view of the water and had a little table for us to make our own breakfast. (We are traveling on budget). The shower was in the room but hot water was not working. The toilets are down the hallway.

One nice thing was that we arrived from an overnight train at about 8am and were allowed to check right into our room - I'm sure we woke up the lady who ran it, but she was nice and friendly to us. We'll be forever grateful as we were quite tired!

The room and property were very dated, but was relatively clean and we have no real complaints. Tangier isn't really a holiday city anyways so I don't imagine people are staying here on purpose. Also, we paid 200 Dirhams (Moroccan).

“In the footsteps of the beat poets”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 May 2008

This place definitely isn't a 5* luxury hotel, but when you're paying the equivalent of £15 for a double room you don't expect it to be! However, it is charming, individual and basic without being grotty. As well as having strong connections with the beat poets of the 50s/60s (William Burroughs lived here for several months and both Alan Ginsberg and Jack Kerouac also came to stay) it also has good views of the beach and the sea and, if you're lucky enough to get room 7, a large rooftop balcony to chill out on.
The bed was large and comfy and the room was clean, if a little dated. The shower had seen better days but wasn't unbearable and the shared toilet was also more than acceptable. The steep flights of stairs would make this an impossibility for anyone with mobility problems though.
We booked by phone a couple of weeks before and it seemed to work OK, despite my broken French! Having said that, the place wasn't too busy when we stayed so I don't know how reliable booking would've been in the busy season. They only take cash as payment and the room cost 200dh for the night.
The hotel is a little challenging to find (down a side street) but we managed it with the map from the rough guide book. It's fairly centrally located though - you can easily walk from there down to the Medina, the beach or the market. It's about 25 minutes walk from the port - we arrived by ferry. An added bonus is that one of Tangier's only bars is attached to the hotel, although there wasn't much going on there the night we went! It's probably more fun to sit in one of the city's tea-shops and watch the world go by whilst enjoying a glass of sweet peppermint tea.

  • Liked — The huge balcony overlooking the sea
  • Disliked — Shower could have been better!
