“Just 'OK' & dirty swimming pool”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 August 2011

Stayed here for 2 nights with a group of friends, we have stayed here before, in 2007, but it doesn't seem as though anything has been refurbished or upgraded in that time, the rooms are adequate and clean, our room had a side sea-view with a balcony but no chairs or table on the balcony so we couldn't sit outside.
There is a fridge in the room, but no Mini-Bar and no Coffee making facilities, we like our Coffee in the mornings before breakfast so I looked for the room service menu...there isn't one! so I called reception and asked for some Coffee to be sent to our room, they seemed surprised and proceeded to tell me that it would cost extra, (as if I didn't know that! ) the un-smiling waiter who brought it to our room wanted payment for it immediately, but I told him I would pay at reception, I don't think they understand the concept or 'Room Service' and are a bit taken back if anyone requests it.
The outside Bar area is looking shabby, the sofas in the conservatory area were grubby looking. The pool was so cloudy you couldn't see the bottom of it, there were plenty of hard plastic sunbeds but didn't see any mattresses for them.
The Hotel is in a good location, near to the port and directly opposite the beach, where there are a quite few restaurants, however it was Ramadan when we were there and none of them were open. It's around a 20-30 min up hill walk to the Medina from the Hotel.
Breakfast was quite good, there was a Lady cooking Moroccan pancakes and crepes and plenty of other things to choose from.
I don't think this Hotel belongs to the Ramada Chain anymore (but I could be wrong) in any case, we wouldn't stay there again.

“1980s but still adequate”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 July 2011

Formerly a Ramada hotel; this would have once been a state of the art hotel (in the 1980s). It is on the main drag in Tanger with the beach just across the road. Like many sun cities, there is a constant parade of the young and the posers who trawel up & down the strip well into the early morning. Double glazing is good but does not hide the constant horns and drag speed - if you are a light sleeper you might ask for a room around the back. It's a trade off with view V noise.
We had a double suite for 3 people. We had to ask for towels and sheets for the 3rd person who slept on a divan. Rooms are clean. The maid was very good and met our needs for additional supply for the third guest. Reception and porters are laconic at best - we went with the flow & when I went down to get the luggage 45 minutes after arriving in the room was assisted by the porter. Good bathroom. Pool is old but does the job. Location cannot be beat.
After the Atlas Mountains and Fes, Tanger is the most touristy of towns (even moreso than Marrakech). Plenty of Spanish and French abound in this high summer tourist period. Like everywhere else in Maroc, the unvented sewerage system means there is a constant wafting of sewerage smelss around the town and particularly the river mouth flowing intio the bay. Swimming in the bay we thought was pretty unwise from a health perspective. The pong around the hotel pool was also off putting but did not stop us using it for the afternoon.

All in all this is a hotel that is adequate & we were generally happy given the shortage of accommodation at this time of the year. Perhaps the recent takeover by Atlas Hotels might see a renovation? However, it does not come lose to comparing with the riads we have stayed in during our 2 week sojourn.

“Nice location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2011

The staff helped a lot with advices about the city, and the shop owner is very funny. The hotel's best part is its location, by the seashore, close to the main avenue and to the Medina.

“The best Ramada I have ever stayed in”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2011

At first one from America would assume staying at a Ramada in Morocco you will pay around $90 and get a decent 2 star room. This is not the case. It is definitely a 4 star hotel with the American standards that surpasses any Ramada I have ever seen. Everything is new and up to date, the service is just as good as any classy American hotel, with all the amenities to go along with it. For everyone else who complained about this hotel try staying and another 4 star hotel in Tangier. You will be in for a big eye opener. This is luxury compared to most in the city even by the local's standards.

“best hotel I have seen in Tangier”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 January 2011

Of all the hotel options in Tangier, I'd highly recommend this one. I also saw the rooms at the much pricier El Minza hotel, and I though the rooms at the Ramada (now the Atlas) were larger, cleaner, and smelled better. The bed was very comfortable. The bathroom was terrific. There is limited wifi in the hotel lobby. The telephone was working only some of the time, but I don't believe that was the hotel's fault. The TV was terrific with an extensive channel selection including BBC News and CNN World. The hotel bar was quite nice, and the breakfast buffet a real treat. The location is great - in the newer part of town, on the beach and closer to some of the trendier bars and clubs in Tangier.
