We needed a place to stay in Tangiers so that we could catch an early ferry back to Spain, and the Cesar (not to be confused with the hostel of the same name) was a decent choice. It's not cheap, but it's right on the main drag, offers a complete set of amenities (indoor pool, gym equipment, spa) as well as the pro forma restaurant and bar. Our rooms were spacious and comfortable. No complaints.
Our experience at the hotel was marred by one of the employees, a fluent English speaker whose responsibilities 0included flagging down taxis. After I gave him the name of the beach restaurant we had chosen, he apparently told the driver to take us to another restaurant far away from the beach…or anywhere else If you’ve ever been in a country where you didn’t speak the language and a taxi was spiriting you away into a seemingly deserted area, you may understand how apprehensive we felt. (The taxi driver was apologetic -- once we managed to communicate with him -- and took us back to the beach area.)
Breakfast was included: a plus, since the hotel is located away from the center of town, and the dining choices were limited.
Would I stay here for a week? Unlikely. But for a quick overnight, it was more than adequate.
