“Great spot in the medina”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 January 2012

What a great spot in the medina -- close to the Bab Mansour and the Place El-hedim, and the sights of the Imperial City. We stayed for a couple of nights in mid-January, and thoroughly enjoyed it. The host and hostess were very accomodating and gave us great advice on planning our outings. Food was very good, too. The building is very well designed to keep the occupants cool in the heat. In the winter, this means that the public spaces can be a bit cool -- if you like it warm, choose another season to visit.

“An amazing find”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 November 2011

We walked in without reservations the night before Eid, and were welcomed into the most beautiful riad we found on our trip to Morocco. The house has been in the same family for many generations, and the architecture and furnishings are museum quality. It's off the main square in the medina, and actually not hard to find because there are signs. Bouchra is a great hostess and excellent cook, and the dinner she offered us tied for the best of our entire trip. We thoroughly enjoyed the bustle of the medina as everyone completed their holiday shopping and highly recommend Meknes as a more manageable alternative if you're feeling overwhelmed by Fes or Marrakech.

“RIAD BAHIA Meknes”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 October 2011

“Ideal location and SUPER FRIENDLY WELCOME”

We chose this Riad because it’s situated five minutes walk from place El Hedim , the central plaza in Meknes.

The rooms are attractively done in local Moroccan style and the air –con works well and without undue noise.

The most attractive aspect of this Riad is the personality of owners Abdellatif and Bouchra. Ardent travelers (they’ve spent a lot of time in India ,Thailand, Malaysia, etc) they understand supremely well what other travelers will enjoy and how to make them feel welcome, as in one’s own home.

Some people in our group are allergic to garlic and/or oil. Both of these ingredients are virtually omnipresent in Moroccan cuisine. Bouchra and her “Dada”( that’s the term in Moroccan for an expert cook) succeeded in preparing some of the finest cuisine (including BBQ Kebabs,Tagines,Couscous,Harira, Chorba, Tangia, cooked salads, and marvellous pastillas( a delicious phylo type pastry stuffed with a filling made of chicken and almonds and then oven baked )etc. Among the most delicious I’ve ever eaten- all without any garlic or oil!

We stayed four nights and the food was so good that we ate there every evening.

We like Meknes a lot more than Marrakech. It’s laid –back, hassle-free, friendly and there’s non of the pushy hard sell so frequent in Marrakech. Add to that the pleasant atmosphere and the marvelously warm welcome at Riad Bahia and all of us are looking forward to our next visit there.

“Family run property with huge collection of Moroccan artefacts”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 October 2011

We stayed for two nights in Sept 2011. This is a fascinating, rambling property with great views from the roof. Although only a hop and skip from the main square, it is hard to find first up, but if you phone (there are public phones in the square) the owner will come and get you. Overall, the service is excellent. While we shared a mint tea, our bags were somehow spirited up to our room. The owners are really helpful, knowledgeable and widely travelled, and the property is crammed with (often museum quality) Moroccan artefacts and art. We ate in and the dinners were excellent. Breakfasts were fine although not quite as comprehensive as at other places we stayed. We really appreciated that the family took time to talk with us about the cty, Morocco and their own travels, and would be happy to return.

“Delightful”

After a long days travelling we were greeted with a pot of mint tea. This Riad would have been a little difficult to find had it not been for the friendly locals who all seemed to know Bahia, it is located behind the main square in the midst of the medina and taxis drop you off at the square, so if you have a lot of luggage beware. Once inside its like an oasis far away from the busy souk outside which was a delight for our 3 night stay. The atrium made for a relaxing setting for breakfast and dinner should you desire. (the traditional dinner was to die for - of course we ate too much)
The family were very helpful and understanding, the Rooms/Ryiad were covered in local artworks which gave a lovely homely feeling with airconditioning to boot. The bathroom was a little small but sufficient for our needs. We were on the top floor which meant climbing 2 flights of stairs which could be a problem for some people. There was a computer available to acess the internet on the first floor.
The family were able to organise a wonderful trip to Volubilus and Moulay Idriss for us without a fuss.
