“Lovely little riad”

We arrived in a taxi from Imlil and our driver called the hotel to come and meet us. You would never find this place without being met! Behind the wooden door there is an oasis of calm with the suites set on the ground floor around the pool and the standard rooms upstairs. The suite we had was lovely with all we needed and the roof terrace was a real bonus with great views - a real sun trap! We were served mint tea and biscuits on arrival which is a good touch. Breakfast was lovely and we had dinner in our deal (booked through Last Minute) which was also great. The service was good - all the staff helpful and smiley. All in all a very good riad in the heart of the Kasbah!

“peace & tranquility...!”

Bang smack in the middle of the local Kasbah.... from the outside you will think oh my god what have I done... as soon as you step inside it is a massive WOW... stunning moroccan architecture through and through. You walk in to an immediate view of the pool on the ground floor when you look up it is open air, surrounded by some of the rooms and a comfortable seating area. To the left and up the stairs is the restaurant area and a tv/library room. Upstairs on the second floor is the rest of the rooms/suites and a further comfortable seating area, you then go upstairs again to the roof terrace for sunbathing or eating. The food was amazing; french style breakfast croissants, crepes, warm bread, and Moroccan style lunch (3 courses - drinks not included), we went half board, breakfast & lunch and really didn't need to eat again. The staff were helpful but speak little or No English, if you know French brush up on your skills. We had the place to ourselves which was wonderfully peaceful after you have been out and about in the madness of the Kasbah or the DJemma El Fna Market (approx 5-10 mins walk).

Don't purchase transfer with this Riad, they send a driver to pick you up and also return you to the airport on way back. You can purchase water etc from many of the shops in the Kasbah rather than from mini fridge in hotel. There is also a money exchange 2 mins from the hotel on the way towards the mosc. We found that maps didn't really help in finding places just gives a rough idea. If a local shows you the way, he will expect payment, be prepared to barta for taxi's etc.....!

We booked with Travel Republic who are just an agent and book hotels and flights separately, they secured and paid for our Riad when the flight was not confirmed, Thomson's then decided to increase the price... 3 TIMES. This went on over 3 days; £20, then £80, then £160. I was disgusted, I would never of purchased a hotel without securing a flight first. I was told by a Travel Republic agent that if we cancelled we would lose most of our money. So we really did not have a choice. In the end they knocked £30.00 off for inconvenience....... Also another note whilst we were waiting for the increased flights to be confirmed, the original price was still being shown on the website.... false advertising..???? I would never use either Travel Republic or Thomson's again if I can help it!

Room Tip: All suites on the 2nd floor are of absolute top quality, we stayed on the first suite on the left...

After reading reviews on tripadvisor and other sites we decided to spend our midweek break in Marrakech at the riad palais calipau, to say it met all our expectations is a massive understatement. Luxury rooms and excellent location and also helpful staff we could’nt have asked for more. We booked our trip through luxury-riads.com as they offered a free night when we booked a three night break and also a free airport transfer. The price we pay was also much cheaper than the price in hotel and the French tourists there nearly fell from their chairs when we told them how much we paid – Great all round experience, no complaining. We are already thinking of booking same place again for easter time.

“Living the Marrakech Dream”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 May 2010

Arrived back a day ago from a magical weekend in Marrakech. I was a bit skeptical at first as the taxi stopped in a dusty busy side street and told us that we had arrived at our destination. As we were treating our friends for their 10th wedding anniversary I was slightly worried! He carried out luggage down a few side streets and stopped at a big wooden door, as soon as the door opened with a friendly face behind and we stepped in I relaxed immediately. I felt like we had stepped into Dr Who's tardis, we sat for awhile with drinks and moroccan pastries surrounded by sofas and large pillows. Our rooms were delightful and the service was a great although a bit on the slow side which didnt bother us. We spent our days going around markets and an indoor souk where we had a great time haggling, and came away with some lovely things . Our first restaurant we went to was Le Comptoir which can tend to be a bit pricey if youre not careful but is well worth visiting! You get great value for money with the food and it is delicious. You can relax outside on the large sofas whilst sipping cocktails then if youre lucky get taken up to the terrace to eat or eat in under the tents (which was still great) make sure you reserve a table. Second night (Sat) we went to the bar/restaurant right next door, again you can enjoy drinks on the terrace and even get blankets for the ladies if feeling cold. The food was good but the service wasnt amazing and the band was left to be desired, when they went off however the DJ was great! Sunday we decided to hire a 4x4 via the hotel to take us to the waterfalls. If you dont mind climbing then you will love this experience, just make sure you wear sensible shoes! On the steep climb up with a local guy who you pay 120dh you get to mix with the locals and try out their cooking or browse around their shops......yes more shopping! Im so glad we did this not sure if I would do it with kids though as some of the bridges we had to cross reminded me of being in an Indiana Jones movie. Finally on the last night we finally managed to find a restaurant I had been searching for called the Terrasse des épices,15 Souk Cherifa, Sidi Abdelaziz
We found a young boy who knew where it was and guided us through a maze of backstreets where both our husbands were moaning that it was going to be rubbish. They soon ate their words as we climbed the stairs onto again an amazing terrace, lit with lanterns and overlooked the square. Food was lovely although no alcohol served we still had a magical last meal in the fantastic Marrakech. Make sure you stay in a Riad within the walls as you will be in the heart of everthing, well worth a trip with an open mind. Enjoy!
