We had booked a weeks stay at this hotel. We arrived around 7pm and by the time we got out of the Airport it was around 9:30pm the Airport was very busy at this time. Thankfully our driver was still waiting for us. Our transfer seemed to take a lot longer than we thought (about 40 mins) and the driver was rushing. When we finally arrived at the hotel it seemed as if it was in the middle of nowhere. We went straight to bed after an evening meal which we thought was on the house.
The next morning we got a chance to explore our surroundings. First thing you will realise is that this is not a 5 Star as advertised at various sites. At best I would say a 3 Star and that would be pushing it!. It is not a new hotel either as we had thought it may be, I asked the staff and they said as a hotel it was about 15 years old. We asked for a double bed and a bath. We got the double bed but there is no bath in any of the rooms, there is also no hamam (traditional Morracan massages) facilities at the hotel. The tv works but only has one channel. If you have booked this hotel for peace and quite then you will be awaken by the peacock, cockrels and the donkey..... none of which are on natures clock.
There is a great clay tennis court if you have some spare time to play. There was a five a side football pitch but the whole property is in the process of being redeveloped, hence there is a lot of building work going on. Thanklfully the workmen only start at about 10am finishing around 3pm. In fact it is also planned that the current hotel will be demolished and replaced with a more modern one. The plans of which are proudly displayed in the hotel managers office. Shame as it will probabaly loose a lot of its charm.
The breakfast was very good and was something I looked forward to every day. Pancakes, crepes, more crepes, fresh bread, jam, butter, eggs made in a tagine, coffee (Qavah in arabic) and mint tea (Shay in arabic). There is no set times for Breakfast, it is whenever you wake up. The swimming pool is only warm enough around 4pm and is a good size for the number of guest the hotel can accomodate.
With a hotel this far (22km) one would expect a complementary shuttle service to the main Square on a daily basis. However this was an opportunity for the Hotel manager to take your much needed holiday money (Dirrhams) by offering the hotel car as a way of getting around. This could prove costly if you do not accomodate within your budget. The meals at the hotel were very good but we found that you could easily snack at the many restuarants within Marrakech for a fraction of the price.
If you are after the countryside and want to be away from the hustle and bustle of Marrakech then this place is ideal. However there is very little to keep you occupied around the hotel. You cannot just stroll out and expect to be in the streets of old Marrakech.
The best thing about this Hotel is the service by one and only waiter (abdul) Although he cannot speak a word of english he will go head over heals to make your stay as comfortable as possible.
PS we went and booked another hotel overlooking the main sqaure for a couple of days.
