“Shocking”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 January 2012

We had lunch at this hotel and can't understand how this is part of Small Leading Hotels. The main restaurant is by the pool which at first sight looks quite nice and with an interesting international menu. We noticed after sitting down plenty of the table cloths on the tables were dirty and not ironed. Furniture was old and need of maintenance. No one seems to are about the appearance of the place. Service was ok, quite pleasant. Unfortunately the food was simply disgusting and obviously had come from the freezer which is unacceptable at these prices. My beef burger was not even warm and actually seemed uncooked - they must have microwaved it I assume. My wife's 30 euro lobster was hot but the flesh had a very stale flavour and texture. All in all the food was pretty much inedible.

We went to see the rooms. The staff at the front desk weren't friendly and don't seem to be trained to the level one would expect from an SLH. Rooms were ok but everything is old (ie bathrooms, furniture, tv etc)

“Dinner was enough ...”

We stayed at the Royal Golf Palace (please read my other review if you have time) which is part of the PGP group and were recommended to eat here for our last evening as most of the hotel restaurants were closed due to Ramadan. Such a beautiful setting, but ... only one charming waiter who was trying his best to juggle 4 tables. The food was so disappointing and such a shame as it sounded wonderful from the menu description. Set dinner x 3 courses approx £45pp (depending on exchange rate) plus minimum of £6 for a glass of house wine. Beer is £6 for a half pint (The £5 Moroccan offering was not available. Soft drinks from £3.50. This means a shandy is £8.50! Miniscule portions and not even beautifully presented. Smoked salmon starter was so small I had eaten the 3 pieces in less than 20 seconds. (I am only 125 pounds) . The calamare was also a small soggy portion disguised in a teryiyake dressing. The steak was cooked as requested but spoilt by a fridge cold potato topping. We complained and after 30 mins (whilst I had finished my meal) it arrived again, the same steak now totally overcooked and the potato still cold! Menu was limited as many items were not available. I had lobster which was OKish but not much bigger than a crayfish and only came with a small amount of overcooked ribbon veg. Sigh, we were hoping for so much better and I am sure it could be if someone did a quality control check. To finish, I must say that the waiter was charming and the management did compensate us for our disappointment. So PGP , well done to your manager at Royal Golf Palmeraie for placating us as I would visit the hotel group again knowing that attention was taken to our complaint and I hope you can sort out the dining experience so that the food matches the special place.

“an oasis in a frenetic city”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 June 2011

very relaxed, away from the hustle and bustle. lovely suite (was upgraded). pool area is lovely and very quiet. nothing much to do there except relax by pool or in suite. breakfast adequate. did not eat other meals there. olny drawbacks are the wifi is grossly inadequate (had to go to office to get signal, not available in my suite) and because of its small size it lacks certain amenities (ie no currency exchange on site, no busienss cetner etc). some cabs did not know where it was comnig from the medina so would recommend printed directions. hotel GM very personable and eager to please. Not runnig back to visit Marrakech but would not hesitate to recommend hotel if you want peace and quiet away from the frenetic medina.

“No small luxury hotel!”

Infrastructure is tearing down, urgent remodelling necessary.
Staff is friendly but service is very poor.
The swimming pool seems to be public for the whole of Marrakech.
For that price u can get much better. It 's a mystery how they became part of www.slh.com

“A pleasant hotel but with complications”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 December 2010

Our group had rooms in the Jardins d'Ines complex, Pavillon du Golf complex and in the Golf Club. We had no rooms in the main hotel so I cannot comment on those.
During our stay we had several complaints about sewage smells in the bedrooms and lack of hot water. The hotel seemed to find the hot water problem difficult to solve.
Transportation was a big problem too. The hotel has a few shuttles looping between the various satellite resorts. The Pavillon du Golf is on the main hotel site so golf buggies can be used to transport guests to and from the main hotel (or alternatively it's a 10 minute stroll) but the Jardin d'Ines is a good 10-15 minute drive off site and we were sometimes waiting ages for a van to take us from one site to the other.
Housekeeping was a constant issue too. We had a problem with a toilet that wouldn't flush and it took 3 days to get the problem fixed. This was partly due to the language barrier as we struggled to make ourselves understood in English to anyone other than senior management.
All of the bedrooms in each complex are beautiful but it was commented that the furniture was chosen for aesthetics rather than comfort.
In summary, I would say that this is a nice hotel that could be so much better if more attention were paid to service.
