“Wonderful riad with attention to every detail without the commercial feeling.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

Wonderful riad with attention to every detail without the commercial feeling. The owner, frenchman Oliver resident in Morocco for 25 years, and his wonderful staff makes their riad the perfect oasis in between excursions in the charming and "exotic" but rather kaotic city. When we arrived, we were immediately shown to the rooftop, seated in the warming sun and served "breakfast" (even though 11.30 am) by the smiling staff. And the genuine hospitality lasted until we left our escort at the airport going home. They also arranged a one-day trip to the Atlas mountains with a very nice guide, including a visit to a Berber market (on Thursdays only!) making you feel 1000 years back in time (I really recommend not to miss this!) and a nice walk to the waterfalls.
And please note that Dar Najat has their own kitchen/resataurant, although you always have to book in advance. We had one dinner here and it really made me convinced that Morroccan cuisine is one of the absolute best in the world.
As long as you are not after a large, luxury hotel with multiple restaurants and a mega-gym, it it virtually impossible to be disappointed with this place! Thanks Oliver!

“Lovely atmosphere”

Everything they say about Oliver, the owner, is completely true. He's a warm, friendly, talkative Frenchman, with equally helpful staff, especially Ahmed L'artiste. Makes a big difference to a holiday. When he heard that I'd brought my partner here as a birthday treat, he immediately invited us to have dinner that evening. It was the best couscous that we had in Marrakech. He gave us a mobile phone while we were there in case we got lost and needed someone to guide us back. The Riad was beautifully appointed. Even though our room and bathroom were a little on the small side, the service more than made up for it. It was a short walk from the lively and chaotic Jamaa el Fna and felt like an oasis. Also if you like a drink, it is almost impossible to get one in the Medina unless you're having dinner so we'd often pop back to the Riad for a drink before eating in the main square.

Room Tip: Make sure you have a room with a seating area

“Celebrating a 50th birthday!!”

We stayed at this Riad for 3 nights, followed by 2 in Essaouira (same owner). We were three female friends celebrating a 50th birthday! I found this Riad via trip adviser and we received what we saw and MORE!! Olivier and his staff were wonderful - so welcoming! Our first visit to Morocco, which was such a culture shock (in a good way) and could have been more overwhelming, however, with the help of the Riad staff, we were given sound advise and direction! "5 min walk to the market or 5hrs if you get lost" was very true and thankfully that's where the mobile phone which we were lent by the Riad gave us security! We were recommended a wonderful restaurant to dine at, Hammam to relax at, places to visit and English speaking tour guides! We also stayed at the house in Essaouira and our host Said could not have done more for us either. We had the whole house to ourselves and found everything very comfortable and a wonderful sanctuary. Essaouira is much quieter than Marrakech and whilst Marrakech was a "must see" it was a pleasure to spend time in the much more quiet and scenic Essaouira! We felt very safe at both Riads! Thanks for making great memories! Would recommend and would like to come back one day!!

Room Tip: Rooms were very quiet - could not hear the mosques! We were situated on the bottom floor!

“Biggest scam in Marrakech”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

Located in the slums of the medina, this shabby little 'hotel' is the worst of all scams.
Rooms are tiny, with off-white plaster walls so thin that you can hear your neighbour unzip a suitcase. The sheets were stained, in all three beds we used. The pillowcases were of such poor quality that they were covered in little balls of lint. Of course the airconditioner didn't work, and no heater was brought when we asked for one. "It works, it works".
There is nothing Moroccan about the whole Riad. Everything is a cheap imitation in poor taste, from the doors to the curtains, to the factory printed paintings hanging in masses throughout the hotel. I felt like I was in a motel.
The bathrooms are pathetically small and dirty; the showerscreens opaque with mould and the sinks encrusted with toothpaste.
There is a CD of reggae music pumping on repeat from the office, from 8am till 10pm, in order to somewhat maintain the "cool" atmosphere promised on the website. While we were there, the hotel was deserted, and the music only emphasised the absurdity of the whole experience.
The swimming pool is a 1m x 1m fountain.
We have alerted the Marrakech Tourist Brigade to thoroughly investigate the quality of this hotel.
Until they sort this scam out, DO NOT GO HERE.

Dear Guest,
We are more than sad to read your comment we don’t consider as an honest one ,sorry to say it.
The fellow traveler will make his idea by himself with reading more than 500 reviews which at the opposite of yours..did appreciate staying in Riad Dar Najat.
I will not keep trying here..to show that your allegations are on my deep heart just not the reality and that you just have one idea:”revenge”.
..after paying a fraction of your bill as you decided to leave sooner due to a big family argument if I hear you…
Have a great year anyway and hope you will find some accommodations in the future more in accordance with your tastes.
We anyway will just say that the terms ““Biggest scam in Marrakech”, “a cheap imitation in poor taste”,” pathetically small and dirty”,” absurdity of the whole experience”,” have alerted the Marrakech Tourist Brigade to thoroughly investigate the quality of this hotel.”
Are just…very very far way from reality and maybe too much even if you hate us…
If I hear you, we are a real disaster…liars & unclean & and scammers…
We for sure contest totally your comment and cannot understand the way you treat us which again ,dear guest ,doesn’t seem fair and..far way from a fair play way of expressing yourself I presume.
We have been trying hard with you to stay the most courteous possible whatever had happen and whatever are your heavy accusations that again we cannot accept as it is simply not the way that things had happen.
I think enough said here .
Faithfully, Oliver (“the scammer”)

“We love Marrakech”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

This was our second visit to Marrakech and we decided to stay at the same riad that we stayed in last year, Riad Dar Najat.

The riad is located within a 5 minute walk away from Jemma el Fna square, in a very quite part of the Old Medina of Marrakech. We had the airport transfer arranged for us by the owner Oliver as it seemed like the easiest option for us. On our last visit we found that a lot of the taxi drivers around Marrakech do not speak any English, getting the riad to organise the transfer meant that we could relax and let the driver take us to the riad.

The riad itself has been renovated since our last visit, everything looked perfect. The staff are so friendly at this riad, they all remembered us from last year and it was like seeing old friends. Whatever you need the staff can get it organised for you, if you need any tips on where to go or what to eat, they will be happy to give you impartial advice.

The food at the riad seemed even better than last time, the tagines they cook are made to perfection and we even got the cook to give us some of the spices she used to bring back home.

All of the rooms are ensuite and have everything that you need inside them, complimentry toiletries were provided and the towels were changed daily. The riad was kept spotless and we could not fault anything we experienced on our stay.

Be warned that Marrakech is a very addictive city, we are already planning our third trip and will be booking to stay at Riad Dar Najat again.
