We were looking for a quiet resort type location during our family holiday to marrakech and found it at the Palmeraie. the village has several villas and condos. we had a two bedroom unit which was clean and nicely appointed. close to the swimming pools and they were warm. kitchen had all the items that you would need to cook (except for a microwave). this is a self serve type resort. rooms are only cleaned once every three days. tennis courts, ping/pong tables and other facilities also available. you could take a shuttle to the main hotel which has additional fitness and swimming pools that you can use in addition to shops, arcades and bowling. they even had a ice skating rink during the winter holidays. the shuttle to the hotel ran every half hour from the reception which was a short four minute walk from our suite. there was a small mini market and take away restaurant about a 15 minute walk (or you could take the shuttle). so we purchased basics and cooked breakfast for ourselves. taxis to marakkech were available at the reception and cost about 100 to 150dh. we had arranged for pick up from the airport and were greeted by a really friendly driver, who spoke english. cost us 250dh for a one way trip. restaurants at the hotel were very expensive. the village had only one restaurant at the swimming pool which served mediocre food. the take- away restaurant near the mini mart however was great. if you want to be in the middle of all the action, then don't stay at the palmeraie. if you want a quiet location where you have the option to cook some meals and don't mind a 10 minute taxi ride to the town, then this is an ideal location. three members of our family played golf (18 holes) and said the course was nice. the price charged did not match the price on the website and they refused to honor the website prices. about $125US per person which includes club rentals and caddies. communication was not really an issue. most taxi drivers and hotel staff spoke english. we had enough french between the four of us so were able to get by with our french when we had to. marrakech was busy but we found the people extremely friendly and helpful. always willing to give directions and shop owners did not hassle you to buy stuff.
