“Greedy French owner, using cheap tricks/lies”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2011

We made a reservation at the Riad based on the photos online.

What we LOVED is: Rashid. GREAT MAN!!!

We arrived at the Riad only to discover that the rooms have been double booked and that our room is actually not at all at the Riad but at an appartment opposite the one where the owners lives.

The first night it was terribly noisy, we could not sleep at all as the windows are facing the street...

Before even booking we made sure that we book a room with Internet. We will assured a high-speed internet. We made it clear that it is crucial for us to have internet. We absolutely needed the connection at strange hours like 3-4h in the morning twice for personal/professional reasons. When we found out that at the other place there was NO internet at all...we were not happy to say the least...

The other place is also not nicely decorated, nor anything else...

Breakfast was nice.

We hated the cheap tricks and hated being lied to. When you book a room you expect to get what you booked and not a noisy, ugly alternative instead...

I guess we did not get the special treatment because we are not French as the owner...

We had a great stay in Marrakech, but no thanks to the owner.

As I said Rashid is a wonderful person. We liked talking to him. His restaurant recommendations were great.

“BAD VALUE & SERVICE”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 December 2010

Very rare for me to write a bad review but unfortunately this one is. 5 of us stay in 2 rooms for 3 nights (each of us pay €80), for Marrakech that's bad value. Bathroom with no door so no privacy. But well that's not the main issue. After we paid in cash in the office, Rashid (the owner or manager?) call us back saying that it's €40, we all paid to him in front of him, checked and done but then he accused us of stealing, forced us to check our pockets. We were so upset, then he slam bang the table with his fist. It certainly not a nice welcome & very scary. At the end we give €30 (that's the only € we have) just to shut him up. We were so scared and unhappy with the situation. We suspects it's his way to get more money from us (we're group of young students, easy target?!) I've been to Marrakech many times, never experience this before. Maybe it's our bad luck, but if you happen to stay here please make sure be firm when you pay in cash in front of him, make sure he doesn't try like what he did to us.
We request for 7.15 breakfast as we had to go to the Sahara & he said yes but well of course he didn't provide it :-((
Accommodation wise is ok, you can get better place elsewhere with the same price this place charges. No wifi and dvd player as they mentioned it (we didn't need it anyway but it's a lie) For me service & facilities have to match with the price and this place certainly got them wrong.

“I felt at home here”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 December 2010

I travelled to Marrakesh alone and spent a week at Riad no 10 in Dec 2006. I returned in Dec 2009 with my son, and was delighted to be stopped in the alley by Rashid, who recognised me immediately and welcomed us back to Riad no 10 for breakfast. What a pleasant experience.
The place hadn't changed much. The rooms are cosy and decorated in traditional Morrocan style. They are clean and bathrooms have hot water. Breakfast on the terrace is a delight. Its close to Djema el Fa (2mins walking) and the staff - particularly Rashid - are a delight.
My french is very limited, but that was no great problem. We were able to communicate and have a bit of a laugh.
Mostly I felt safe and at home here and hope to return in the next few days.

“friendly and relaxing”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 July 2008

I stayed at Riad No. 10 twice. the first time some 4-5 days at the beginning of june last year and, as i reaaly found the stay pleasant, i chose it this year for my only night in marrakech.

I found it on the internet and I booked it directly by emailing the riad.

When I got there, they were friendly and gracious. I got a better room then the one i booked, the people were wonderful, the atmosphere great, the riad is absolutely beautiful.

The last night we stayed there the man attending the riad cooked just for us who asked him to, because we were too tired to go out. And he woke up very early in the morning to have breakfast ready for us before leaving. He didn't have to. If I'llgo back to Marrakech, I will stay there again.

  • Liked — the relaxing atmosphere
  • Disliked — the people speaking only french

“A Unique Little Riad”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 January 2008

We spent a long weekend in January at Riad Numero 10, and would thoroughly recommend it.
I initially found out about the riad after emailing the Jnane Mogador, who were fully booked but recommended trying Numero 10 instead. I emailed them, and they replied on the same day to let me know that they had two rooms available. We chose the Petunia room, which opened out onto the terrace, had air-con/heating, and ensuite bathroom. The price was €55 including breakfast. The door did not lock, but we had no problems leaving our belongings in the room. Some of the other rooms did seem to have locks. The owners gave us a key to the main door of the riad, which was locked at all times.
Our room was uniquely and traditionally decorated, and the bathroom was quite spacious. It didn't have a door, but did have a curtain that you could pull across. The bed was firm and comfortable, and the room was cleaned with fresh towels every day.
The mosque next door is very loud at 5am - but this only goes on for a few minutes. If this bothers you, I would recommend staying somewhere else - but to be honest, you will find it hard to find a riad in Marrakesh that isn't within hearing distance of a mosque!
Breakfast was served every day between 8am and 10am, and consisted of pancakes or crumpets, fresh baguette, freshly squeezed orange juice (amazing!), apricot and strawberry jam, coffee and tea.
The owners were helpful, directing us where we wanted to go and letting us know where we could hire a motorbike for the day to go into the mountains. We only really spoke to the man, who spoke a little english. They also have a sweet little dog that runs about and likes to have a pat occassionally!
The roof terrace was very nice - it was sunny during the day, and there were lots of chairs to it on. There is also a very top roof terrace, where there are a couple of chairs and sun loungers. This is good for sunset, as it catches the last bit of the sun.
Overall, we had a great time at the Riad Numero 10 and would stay there again.

  • Liked — The unique style of the riad, the breakfast and the terrace
  • Disliked — The curtain on the toilet door!
