“Great location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 October 2007

We were referred to this riad after we arrived at Jnane Mogador which was fully booked (even though we had made an online reservation!). Our room was basic but it was very clean and definitely decorated in typical Moroccan decor. The riad is in a great spot - a bit scary when you're walking there for the first time at night as the street is quite deserted - but it's just a five minute walk to the markets. The roof terrace is very nice - lots of cushions and a good way to get away from crazy Marrakech.

You don't lock your doors (there is no lock) which we found strange but nothing was stolen - I would still recommend taking your passport etc with you.

A big problem is the riad's proximity to a mosque - the call to prayer might as well be in your room because it is so loud! I would absolutely recommend bringing earplugs, which we fortunately did.

“Great environment, some small problems”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 October 2007

We booked the Riad Numero 10 after being referred to them by Jnane Mogador (who were full). We booked via the internet (had to wait for them to decide if they had any space, send credit card details by e-mail, chase, chase - bit of a faff, but typical Morocco). Neither could we get the phone number they provided to work in Morocco, so we had to find our own way there (although it's not too bad to find).

The building is lovely - we had the Gardenia room which is at the top of the building, and very nicely decorated - soothing after being out in the town. The bathroom had no door, but instead a chiffon curtain in front of the toilet, so not the most private of affairs. I'm not sure what the rooms lower down would be like - seemed a little dark further down the light wells, but I couldn't really comment.

There are a couple of nice terraces to sit out on, where breakfast is served. The breakfast was OK (good coffee) but not the best we had, despite this being the most expensive place we stayed in Morocco (about €60 per night).

The French lady who apparently runs it was not in residence, and the Moroccan guy who was looking after it was OK - didn't speak much English, not terribly friendly or accomodating, but OK.

Something of a disturbance to the pleasant environment is the resident dog though who (although cute) seems to have freedom to roam and defecate wherever he pleases. This can be pretty annoying, and a little unpleasant....

  • Liked — Room decor, main terrace
  • Disliked — The dog

“Musical Riads”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 August 2007

Don't count on actually staying at Riad Numero 10.

We stayed here twice, except the second time we got shifted to another riad just across the road. It didn't bother us, as it was part of a booked trip, so it wasn't as if we had chosen to stay here.

The best part about this riad is the roof terrace, which is brilliant. You have your breakfast there in the morning, and its a fantastic, cool place to relax at any time of the day or night. We spent most of our time up here, as our room was pretty warm. Its also a good place to catch up with other travellers or just relax after a hectic day in Marrakech.

As for our room, it was very dark (had virtually no natural light) and pretty noisy during the day. If you can, avoid the rooms on the ground floor, as they seem to be the noisiest. The rooms are traditionally decorated.

Be warned though, they don't speak much English here, so you will either need a bit of French, or Arabic. The staff though are very friendly and are a great asset of the place. It was a bit hard to find the place without paying someone to show you the way, but once you're there its only a couple of minutes walk to the Djema el Fna, so its a pretty good location.

The second time we stayed there, we ended up staying in a Riad called Riad des Princesses just across the road, because Riad No 10 was booked out (even though we had a reservation for 2 nights). It was of a much higher standard, for the same price, so if you get that option, take it straight away. After reading the other reviews of Riad No.10, it seems like a bit of a lottery if you will in fact actually end up staying there.

  • Liked — Excellent terrace and great location
  • Disliked — Dark, noisy room (if you actually get to stay there)

“We were moved even though we paid in advance”

After a two weeks trip around Morocco, The Riad numero 10 was the only negative experience during our holidays. We had booked a room two months in advance paying 30 € as deposit and when we arrived at the place we were told that our room was gone for someone else. We were reallocated in another place of lower quality.

“Unique, Quiet Riad”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 January 2007

We stayed at this Riad as Riad Les Oliviers had overbooked. As we were on a tour not sure how much we paid but those staying on were able to negotiate an amazing rate due to it being the slow season. The man who runs the place and the ladies coming in for cleaning were very lovely people. The Riad is split in two and each sides are unique, lots of steps, turns and places to hit your head but very fun. The large balcony at the top is great for relaxing and meeting other travellers and has a turtle (we named Winston). It is where you have your breakfasts and has great views of the Mountains and tops of buildings. Each room are unique in size, furnishing and layout and make this place special.

Would go again.

  • Liked — Uniqueness, Location, Staff
  • Disliked — As with all accomodation not 24hr reception - hard to find the guy when you need him ! :-)
